Lionel Richie has left fans concerned after falling ill during a performance and ‘swaying uncontrollably’.
The 77-year-old was forced to bring the first concert of his new Sing A Song All Night Long tour to a halt at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Richie reportedly announced an unusual intermission after performing Three Times A Lady from his piano.
Richie’s band then left the stage just minutes later, according to Minnesota’s Bring Me The News.
Roughly half an hour later, a band member returned on stage to announce that Richie would not be able to return because he was feeling ill.
The singer’s team is yet to comment on his impromptu departure from the stage.
Taking to social media, fans who attended the show shared their concerns for the singer, who had reportedly signalled throughout that he wasn’t feeling well.
One user, called Greg, wrote: ‘Hey now, our older, legendary performers are getting older, unfortunately. Sounds like he was just dehydrated, and the rider contract should always include 200 bottles of water.’
Sharon also added: ‘I saw him last year when he was touring with Earth Wind and Fire. Both did amazing concerts. Hopefully he’s going to be okay.’
Videos can be seen of Richie stopping to sit down multiple times during his second-to-last song, Dancing On The Ceiling.
He also reportedly told the crowd that he felt ‘dizzy’ on stage.
Richie was able to sit at the piano bench for what turned out to be his last song, Three Times A Lady.
According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, Richie is said to have told the audience: ‘When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your a** down.’
Another clip posted to social media shows Richie appearing unsteady as he walked across the stage while singing Dancing On The Ceiling.
This came before he made an unexpected stop and sat down on the edge of a step.
Despite appearing unwell, Richie continue to sing the song while being seated.
After standing up and attempting to make his way across the stage again, less than 30 seconds later he stopped to sit down again while continuing to sing.
According to the Star Tribune, many audience members began to leave after Richie’s band left the stage.
The first half of the concert featured a performance from Earth, Wind & Fire, with Richie taking to the stage for the second half of the evening.
The music legends are scheduled to visit 26 cities through August 14.
Metro has contacted Lionel Richie’s representatives for comment.
