Two-time Academy Award-nominated British actress Naomi Watts has revealed the surprising reason she canceled her honeymoon.
Watts, 57, married American actor Billy Crudup, also 57, in 2023. The couple had been romantically linked since they co-starred in Netflix’s 2017 psychological thriller drama series “Gypsy.” However, it wasn’t until 2022, at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, where Crudup was nominated for his role on Apple TV’s “The Morning Show,” that they first appeared on a red carpet together.
During a panel at an FYC event for FX’s “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette,” on Wednesday, April 29, Watts was discussing her role as the iconic Jackie Kennedy Onassis in the limited series when she spilled the beans on what made her and Crudup cancel their honeymoon.
Naomi Watts Canceled Her Honeymoon to Star in ‘Love Story’
Per People, Watts revealed that, when the opportunity to star in “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette” arose, she and Billy Crudup were planning to go on their long-awaited honeymoon. It was a situation that certainly posed an obstacle when she contemplated whether or not to take the job.
Watts told the FYC event panel, “I was unavailable, technically. I had worked back-to-back, and then I was trying to take a honeymoon with my husband, which we’d put off from the year before.”
With a little encouragement and persuasion from executive producer Ryan Murphy, however, Watts quickly realized it was an opportunity she couldn’t turn down. It resulted in the cancelation of her honeymoon.
The actress said, “Ryan calls, and he just seduces you in a way that makes it feel so possible suddenly. I was terrified. Jackie O is America’s darling. She’s arguably the most memorable first lady. She’s in our hearts to this day.”
Opting to take on the job at the expense of her honeymoon was a good choice. Having hit FX and FX on Hulu in February this year, “Love Story” has proved to be a huge hit. It boasts an impressive 81% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
IMDb’s description of its plot is as follows: “Explores the undeniable chemistry, whirlwind courtship and high-profile marriage of one of the most iconic couples of the 20th century, John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette.”
In addition to Watts, its stars include Sarah Pidgeon as Carolyn Bessette, Paul Anthony Kelly as John F. Kennedy Jr., and Grace Gummer as Caroline Kennedy.
Watts’ Professional Life Is Extremely Busy of Late
You have to wonder if Naomi Watts will ever find the time to honeymoon with her husband, Billy Crudup (who is, of course, a fairly busy man himself).
Per IMDb, since 2023 when the couple wed, Watts has appeared in several movies and television shows.
In 2024, she appeared in drama movie “The Friend,” erotic drama “Emmanuelle,” and FX’s anthology series “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.” In 2025, she appeared in the Netflix romantic comedy limited series “Too Much” and Hulu’s legal drama series “All’s Fair.” Of course, she’s also been busy so far in 2026 with the aforementioned “Love Story.”
Her upcoming projects include further episodes of “All’s Fair” and 2022’s “The Watcher,” and movies “The Housewife,” “Mother Courage,” and “Margot & Rudi.”
In addition to his ongoing role in “The Morning Show” Crudup starred in the 2025 comedy-drama movie “Jay Kelly.” He is also set to star in the fantasy horror movie “The Auction” (per IMDb).
We’d like to wish Naomi Watts and Billy Crudup all the very best with their careers and marriage. Hopefully, they’ll get to enjoy a honeymoon at some point in the near future.
