Malcolm-Jamal Warnerâs widow, Tenisha Warner, confirmed her identity for the first time and shared a heartfelt tribute to her late husband. On Instagram, Friday, September 12, she posted a photo from their 2017 wedding, reflecting on their life together. Warner, 54, passed away in July after drowning while on vacation in Costa Rica.
Tenisha Talks About Love & Legacy
“Thank you for holding us in so much love during this tender time,” Tenisha wrote. “Tomorrow marks our anniversary âand my heart is wide open. For the first time, Iâm sharing a glimpse of the love that began it all.”
She added, “I can still hear my husbandâs laugh, still feel the way he made room for every part of me â every tear, every dream. Together we carry the legacy my husband and I began â one that nurtures childrenâs inner light and gives young artists the freedom to create outside the lines. This is love, still moving. Still making. Still carrying us forward.”
River & Ember Offers Support & Creativity for Families
Tenisha also highlighted River & Ember, a creative platform she co-founded with Malcolm-Jamal and their daughter. The organization offers seasonal toolkits featuring art and exercises designed to strengthen childrenâs emotional rhythms and encourage calmness, presence, and connection for parents.
The toolkits provide strategies for helping children navigate difficult emotions, including grief.
“My husband, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, embodied both. His presence was a river â steady, sure, and always moving toward what matters. His spirit was an ember â glowing with encouragement, igniting possibility in those around him,” the companyâs website reads.
Warner Family Foundation Launches to Support Young Artists
The Warner Family Foundation will provide scholarships for young students pursuing higher education in the arts.
“The Malcolm-Jamal Warner Creative Legacy Scholarship is open to young artists ages 14â22 whose work reflects an interdisciplinary spirit,” the foundationâs website explains.
“Just as Malcolm was an actor, poet, and musician, we believe art often lives in more than one form. We welcome creators who cross boundaries â poets who paint, musicians who write, actors who cook â and all those who seek the freedom to explore their artistry without limits,” it continues.
Honoring Malcolm-Jamalâs Legacy Through Creativity
Eligible applicants aged 14 to 22 must showcase talent in at least two creative fields. “This is a chance to share the story of your creativity, how it has unfolded in your life, in whatever forms it has chosen to take,” the foundation states.
Through her message and the launch of these initiatives, Tenisha Warner honors Malcolm-Jamalâs legacy while supporting and inspiring the next generation of artists.
