Margaret Qualley Says Mom Andie MacDowell & Bill Murray Would Be the Ultimate Hollywood Couple

30-year-old Margaret Qualley, who has been making waves for her performance in “The Substance” alongside Demi Moore, and the daughter of Oscar-nominated actress Andie MacDowell, has a new mission. The actress has decided to take up matchmaking. Well, sort of. On “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” Thursday night, she revealed she’s trying to set up her mom with none other than comedy legend Bill Murray.

“I’m putting two and two together,” Qualley said, recalling a backstage encounter with the “Ghostbusters” star. “He’s living in Charleston. My mom’s living in Charleston. They’ve got this kind of rage towards each other, but maybe he’s trying to make amends. She’s single, he’s single. They’re both crazy. Let’s get it together!”

A Blast from the Past: ‘Groundhog Day’ Reunion

MacDowell, who looks amazing at 67-years-old, and Bill Murray, 74, first crossed paths nearly three decades ago on the 1993 classic “Groundhog Day.” MacDowell played news producer Rita Hanson, and Murray starred as the sarcastic weatherman Phil Connors.

Qualley, who is married to music producer Jack Antonoff, recounted that Murray admitted they “didn’t get along so well while we were making that movie.” She laughed as she described the actor joking about MacDowell taking a long time on her hair and missing a line or two. Qualley, however, had “heard a different story” from her mother. If you know what we mean.

Even with that on-set tension, Qualley believes timing might be everything. “I said to circle back and get my number if he wants to connect with my mom. And, you know, if he’s got any sense at all, he’d be the luckiest guy in the world!” she exclaimed.

Andie MacDowell: Single, Content, & Open

MacDowell, who has three children, Margaret, Justin, and Rainey, with ex-husband Paul Qualley, has spoken openly about her single life. In a 2024 appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” she admitted she’s content being single but also sees the humor and excitement in dating.

“I do think that there is nothing wrong with being single, really. I have great female friends and I have some male friends that I like too,” she said, reflecting on life in her 60s. MacDowell had previously revealed she moved back to her native South Carolina in 2023 after her children left home. Which, yes, conveniently puts her in the same city as Murray. So, if we put two and two together, it could totally work out if you ask us!

Bill Murray: Hollywood Icon & Wild Card

Murray, known for films like “Ghostbusters,” “Caddyshack,” “Lost in Translation,” and, of course, “Groundhog Day,” is notorious for his offbeat sense of humor and unpredictability. His acting and sense of humor have made him both a Hollywood treasure and a challenging co-star. (Side note: Please watch the video above of him eating chicken wings on “Hot Ones.” You’ll burst out laughing in tears.) But as Qualley points out, that wild streak might be exactly what makes him a perfect match for her mom.

With both stars now living in Charleston, Qualley is optimistic about a romantic reconnection. “Time to set them up,” she told Fallon, leaving fans wondering if Hollywood’s newest couple could be on the horizon.

Whether Murray takes the bait remains to be seen, but Qualey’s matchmaking skills might just be the start of a new love story for two of Hollywood’s most beloved figures. Honestly, we see it, and we’re here for it.
