Watching a variety of sporting events is often considered to be one of America’s favorite pastimes. A multitude of emotions can course through your veins while watching your favorite team win or lose. If you’re not a sports fan, you may live with one or have been raised by one, and have witnessed the emotional outbursts firsthand.
Live sporting events are even better because they trigger equally spontaneous reactions by fans that can be pretty entertaining to witness. On Tuesday’s episode of “Live with Kelly & Mark,” one of the co-hosts shared a story about the famed New York City Marathon and its impact on the show’s producer.
Mark Consuelos Shared a Story About Michael Gelman
The New York City Marathon entered the conversation on a recent episode of “Live with Kelly & Mark,” with Mark Consuelos offering up a series of reasons why people become emotional about the traditional event.
“I don’t know, I’d be crying after the beginning, the first quarter, the half,” Consuelos jokingly said. He then looked to Live producer Michael Gelman, who shared that “he often cries watching them.”
Gelman then confirmed that he does indeed become emotional while watching the New York City Marathon, saying, “I get very emotional at the end.”
Consuelos jokingly fired back, “And I’m saying, you need to get your testosterone checked.”
Mark Made a Future Career Suggestion for Gelman
Gelman took the joking just fine, but went on to further explain why the live event gets him in his feelings.
“It’s very moving that these people have gone through that. Sometimes they’re disabled, sometimes they’re crawling, but even sometimes they just went through so much and they’re stumbling across the finish line, it’s such an achievement.”
Consuelos noticed that the producer was emotional just thinking about the marathon and joked, “He’s crying right now. You’re welling up right now, get a close-up on Gelman’s misty eyes. You could be an actor, maybe, a soap opera actor. Summon up the tears!”
The comment made Gelman chuckle and reply that he is unsure whether he is “an actor or a psychopath,” leading to laughter from nearly everyone in the studio, including Kelly Ripa. It’s great to see this crew still invest in the daily conversations after so many years. The fact that they actually listen and then respond to one another is part of what makes the show still so entertaining.
