After several high-profile relationships with actresses like Minnie Driver and Winona Ryder, Matt Damon met former bartender Luciana Bozán Barroso one fateful night in Miami. The couple has been together ever since and is raising four children together.
Here are five facts to know about “The Odyssey” star and his blended family.
1. Matt and Luciana Had a Meet Cute
In 2003, Bozán Barroso was working as a bartender in Miami when Damon was in town to shoot “Stuck On You.” The actor ended up at her bar and noticed his future wife.
âHe had started getting recognised and asked for pictures and autographs, and then it got kind of aggressive because people are drinking and stuff, and so he came and hid behind my bar ⦠[wanting to] just hang out back there and have a drink. He says âoh I saw you and I really wanted to talk to you’,” she told “Vogue Australia.” âSo I put him to work with me! I said: âyou know, if youâre going to be back here, you canât just be standing there!â”
2. They Have Four Daughters
When the couple met, Bozán Barroso was already a single mom to four-year-old Alexia, born in 1999, from a previous relationship. Damon became her stepdad when the couple married. She later appeared in Damon’s movie “We Bought a Zoo.”
While some men may have been intimidated to date a single mom, Bozán Barroso says it was a green flag for Damon.
“Iâm not going anywhere’⦠and that was one of the things he loved, that I had a daughter. He said: âI love that youâre a mum and thatâs your priorityâ.  Some guys might have been different, they might think itâs complicated, but for him it wasnât, she told “Vogue Australia.”
Their first daughter together, Isabella, was born in 2006. Gia followed in 2008 and Stella was born in 2010. All three girls were born in Miami.
3. The Family Has Moved Around
After getting their start in Florida, the family swapped coasts and purchased a mansion in the Pacific Palisades to be close to his work in Hollywood. In 2021, they sold the home in favor of a Brooklyn Heights home that appears to be the family’s primary residence these days.
The family added to their real estate portfolio with an $8 million condo in Los Angeles in 2024.
4. They Keep Him Grounded
Damon has been an A-Lister for his kids’ entire lives, but you might not know it talking to his daughters.
“My sixteen-year-old likes to give me a hard time, and she’s very clear about not watching anything I’m in if she thinks might be good,” Damon told Seth Meyers during an appearance on “Late Night.” “If I get bad reviews or something, that’s the one she wants to see.”
His kids have also been known to roast the actor on the red carpet.
5. Luciana Used to Have a Crush on Ben Affleck
Before Bozán Barroso and Damon met, he was not the “Good Will Hunting” actor that caught her eye.
“After we’d been together for a little while, probably a few months, she admitted that â I think I met her best friend from high school and it came out that the two of them went and saw Good Will Hunting together and her best friend thought I was the cute one and she thought Ben was the cute one, Damon told Howard Stern earlier this year. “So she admitted to me… I’m like ‘You got the wrong one?’”Â
Clearly, her former celebrity crush wasn’t a dealbreaker, and the trio has gone on to become creative collaborators themselves, with Bozán Barroso serving as a producer on Damon and Affleck’s most recent project together, thriller “The Rip.”
