Oba Femi has officially arrived, and WWE may never be the same again.

As night two of WrestleMania 42 got underway in Las Vegas, there was already a buzz in the air suggesting we were on the cusp of a new era.

The moment Oba, 27, started his long strut down to the ring, Allegiant Stadium came alive, and it kept building.

After a perfect five-minute match, The Ruler slayed the Beast as he pinned Brock Lesnar in the most dominating debut in WrestleMania history.

The veteran fighter left everyone shocked minutes later, taking off his boots and gloves, and giving a tearful farewell 24 years after his WWE debut.

‘I would say Oba is the strongest man that I ever faced in my whole career,’ he said, reflecting on their previously NXT North American Championship match.

Dragon Lee is used to taking on wrestlers bigger than he is, and usually, he relies on his ‘heart’ to overcome the obstacles in his way.

‘I’ve been wrestled with tough guys, heavy guys. I would say, like every single wrestler that I face is heavier, taller and stronger than me,’ he conceded.

‘But they don’t have the heart that I have inside, the fire inside the dragon.’
Enter Oba.

Has Brock Lesnar really retired from WWE?

Metro’s WWE expert Alistair McGeorge explores whether or not Brock is actually done.

If you’ve ever wanted to hear what a collective gasp from over 55,000 people sounds like, Las Vegas has you covered.

The moment Brock started to take off his gloves and boots, there was audible shock around the stadium as Brock Lesnar carried out a long-held wrestling retirement tradition.

What was already a passing-of-the-torch moment was presented as something much more seismic.

Just 24 hours after Paige returned on night one, the second half of the doubleheader suggested another veteran could be done.

There were plenty of signs this was a legit retirement, from Brock’s tears and Paul Heyman’s emotional reactions, to the former even throwing up crossed arms to suggest it wasn’t simply part of the show.

When they replayed the clip, Heyman was crying. So I feel sure Brock retired tonight,’ wrote fan @DebbieDeans8 on X.

Even one of Brock’s former WrestleMania opponents, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle, appeared to think it was legit.

‘Love you my brother,’ he wrote. ‘There will only be one like you. Enjoy retirement Brock.’

However, there is still a little doubt.

On the post-show, WWE teased that Brock’s future is uncertain, rather than definitively retired.

This year, SummerSlam will take place in Brock’s college city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, which would be the ideal stage for his final match.

There have been rumours that the career-killer GUNTHER could add the Beast’s scalp to a retirement list which already includes Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles.

When the Ring General didn’t come out to interrupt Brock’s farewell, that door appeared to close, but there’s still a chance.

‘Gunther is going to beat tf out of Heyman. Lure Brock Lesnar into a match at Summerslam in Minnesota,’ suggested fan account @wrestletaleszay.

‘Brock Lesnar is not retired yet lol. It was his final WrestleMania – not his final match. #Wrestlemania’

On tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw, there is every possibility GUNTHER could cash in the favour owed to him by Heyman and set the stage for a match with Brock, who would put his career on the line.

We don’t have long to wait, and it’s impossible to call if the Beast is really done.

‘But Oba, he’s special, my friend,’ the luchador added. ‘Especially, he’s young. When you’re young, my friend, no one can stop you.’

Speaking to us in Las Vegas during WrestleMania week, Dragon Lee heaped praise on Oba and highlighted one brutal attack that stands above any other.

‘I would say, Oba, he will be – he’s a superstar. But he will be huge,’ he said. ‘He’s a great man. He’s a great wrestler. He’s strong – [and] his chops. He always takes my heart to my back!’

Oba is making waves all over, with fans recently getting their wish of an updated model in WWE 2K26 via the Ringside Pass, while he’s taking great strides to the top of the WWE mountain.

WWE 2K26 is out now. Relive WrestleMania 42 on Netflix.
