<p id=”par-1_39″>Meghan Markle surprised fans when <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/source-close-meghan-markle-responds-backlash-over-insensitive-paris-tunnel-video.html/”>she attended the Balenciaga show</a> during Paris Fashion Week. The Duchess of Sussex’s spokesperson said at the time that she attended the show to support her friend, new Balenciaga creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli. </p>
<p id=”par-2_69″>“Over the years, the duchess has worn a number of designs by Pierpaolo. They have worked closely together, collaborating on design for key moments on the world stage,” Meghan’s rep explained. “She has long admired his craftsmanship and modern elegance, and [that night] was no different. The evening reflects the culmination of many years of artistry and friendship, reflected in her support for his new creative chapter at Balenciaga.”</p>
<p id=”par-3_50″>However, the Italian designer later told <a href=”https://www.thecut.com/article/pierpaolo-piccioli-on-meghan-markle-and-balenciaga-debut.html” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>The Cut</a>, that Meghan invited herself to his show, saying, “She reached out and said she’d love to come to the show. There was no strategy or big orchestration. I didn’t tell anyone she was coming because I wanted it to stay a surprise.”</p>

<p id=”par-8_36″>A second said, “Markle’s clinging to that royal title like a lifeline, desperate 2 stay relevant,” while a third person wrote, “We all knew … and maybe she invited herself to be on Bazaar front page.”</p>
<p id=”par-9_39″>A fourth person commented, “If Balenciaga’s lead designer had not revealed it, she wouldn’t have admitted it.” And another person agreed that she “had no choice but to admit she invited herself to save face because Pierpaolo outed her.”</p>
