Michael Douglas Celebrates the Life of the Late Jane Goodall

Dame Jane Morris Goodall died on Wednesday, October 1. She was 91. Her tremendous impact as an animal rights campaigner and primatologist earned her the love and respect of many. Fans and celebrities have flooded social media with tributes in her honor. 

Among those who celebrated Goodall was actor Michael Douglas, who penned a thoughtful message about her legacy. He also sent his condolences to her family. 


Michael Douglas Reacts to Jane Goodall’s Passing

Douglas posted a photo on Instagram of himself and Goodall smiling for the camera. In the caption, he wrote a short but powerful message. “RIP to my fellow UN Messenger of Peace, Dr. Jane Goodall. Her legacy will forever be remembered for her unwavering dedication to our planet. My deepest condolences to the Goodall family,” he wrote. 

The comment section has been filled with messages from fans who have wanted to share their thoughts. “Awesome Pic, Michael. She was a beautiful and amazing lady,” a comment reads. “What a legend in animal conservation and environmental issues. Thanks for your contribution to our world,” another person shared. 

“Honoring this incredible woman and legend and forever in our hearts,” a third person wrote. 


Jane Goodall’s Passing

Goodall was well-respected and continued to work right up until her death. The Jane Goodall Institute announced her passing on Instagram on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. 

“The Jane Goodall Institute has learned this morning, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, that Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, UN Messenger of Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, has passed away due to natural causes,” the statement reads. “She was in California as part of her speaking tour in the United States. Dr. Goodall’s discoveries as an ethologist revolutionized science, and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world.”

Like Goodall, Douglas is also proud of his title as UN Messenger of Peace, which he has had for over 25 years. The causes he is passionate about, as well as how his peace activism began, were shared on a biography page for him on the official United Nations website.

“His journey into the realm of global diplomacy was sparked at age nineteen by a lecture from visionary thinker Buckminster Fuller, whose views on Earth’s finite resources profoundly impacted him,” the bio reads. “This encounter imbued Douglas with a lifelong dedication to nurturing and protecting our planet which he saw as a fragile, interconnected ecosystem.”
