Michele Reiner’s Last Instagram Post Celebrated Her Children: PHOTOS

Michele Singer’s Instagram Posts

Rob Reiner and Michele Singer’s love story felt cinematic long before it became part of film history. While Reiner was known for shaping iconic romantic comedies, Singer lived her greatest role quietly. She was a devoted mother who celebrated life’s simplest moments, from Christmas mornings to graduations and everyday joys that defined their home.

The couple shared three children: Jake, Nick, and Romy. Reiner is also the adoptive father of actress Tracy Reiner, the biological daughter of his first wife, Penny Marshall.

Reiner and Singer were killed at their California home on December 14. Their deaths have left Hollywood and those closest to them reeling.

A Family Life Built on Small, Meaningful Moments

Behind the scenes, Singer focused her life on her children. Friends and followers often saw glimpses of her pride and joy through personal posts that highlighted family milestones and quiet celebrations.

Her final social media post centered on her children. Sharing a photo, she wrote: “Amazing day on the set of Spinal Tap 2 with Paul McCartney @kylebonokaplan.” See more photos and videos from their everyday lives.

Over the years, Singer documented small but meaningful moments from her children’s lives.

Birthdays, graduations, and everyday memories mattered deeply to her. Family always came first.

How Michele Singer Changed the Ending of ‘When Harry Met Sally’

Reiner met Singer on the set of “When Harry Met Sally,” the film he directed and one of the most beloved romantic comedies of all time. Their meeting did more than change his personal life. It changed the movie itself.

“Originally, Harry and Sally didn’t get together. But then I met Michele, and I thought: OK, I see how this works,” Reiner told The Guardian in 2018.

In a February 2024 interview on “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace,” Reiner explained that the original ending reflected his own loneliness at the time.

“I’d been single for 10 years, and I couldn’t figure out how I was ever going to be with anybody. That gave birth to ‘When Harry Met Sally,’” he said. “I hadn’t met anybody, so it was going to be the two of them seeing each other after years, talking, and then walking away from each other.”

“I met her while we were making the film, and I changed the ending,” Reiner said.

A Matchmaker, a Movie Set, and a Real-Life Romance

Reiner has credited director Barry Sonnenfeld with playing matchmaker. During pre-production, Reiner noticed a magazine featuring Michelle Pfeiffer and mentioned calling her.

Sonnenfeld shut the idea down immediately.

“You’re not going to call her, you’re going to marry my friend Michele Singer,” he told Reiner, according to The Guardian.

The final version of “When Harry Met Sally” ends with Harry, played by Billy Crystal, rushing to a New Year’s Eve party to tell Sally, portrayed by Meg Ryan, that he loves her. The two share a kiss and marry three months later. The hopeful ending mirrored Reiner’s own new beginning with Singer. The couple married in 1989.

On December 14, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical aid call at a Brentwood residence. First responders discovered two people dead at the scene, authorities confirmed to People.

While police have not publicly released all details, multiple sources identified the victims as Reiner and Singer. Sources also told People that the couple was discovered by their daughter, Romy.

Their son, Nick Reiner, has been arrested in connection with the deaths and is being held on $4 million bail, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department records reviewed by USA TODAY. The investigation remains ongoing.

Once a home filled with warmth, history, and family memories, the Brentwood residence now stands at the center of a devastating chapter in Hollywood history.
