Country music star Miranda Lambert has been a longtime animal activist and rescue dog mom. The “Mama’s Broken Heart” artist announced the passing of her beloved Chihuahua, Cher, on Sunday, December 28.

Miranda took to social media to share the devastating news.

“Our sweet bear Cher crossed over the rainbow bridge yesterday. Cher gave us 15 years of love and all the chihuahua attitude and energy she had to give,” the animal activist began in her lengthy tribute to the late pup. “And if you have ever had a chi chi you know what I mean. I adopted her from a shelter when she was 10 weeks old in 2010. I put her in my overalls pocket at the shelter and that was it!”

Miranda continued, “Her first big trip was to the ACM awards in Las Vegas. [My stylist, Tiffany Gifford] matched my dress to her so I could take her on the red carpet. 😂 And I won that year so she did the whole press room with me. Like she has been doing it her whole life. She was on every tour I have done since. Thank you to her sweet soul for all the road miles she traveled.”

Fans and friends shared their condolences for the Grammy winner’s loss.

“Oh no. I’m so sorry my friend. She was so lucky to have you as her mama,” one friend wrote.

Fellow artist Karen Fairchild commented, “Sweet Cher. 💔 I’m so sorry!!”

“Cher will be remembered forever! i’m so so sorry for your loss Ran,” a third friend shared.

According to Miranda, she was a “rescue dog of of 9” back in 2018, when she met now-husband Brendan McLoughlin.

“Now we are down to one,” she added in her Sunday tribute. “We sure are ready for a break from the heartbreak y’all, but they are worth every tear we have cried. Animals bring so much joy but I sure do wish dog years didn’t go by so fast. Rescue’s forever.”

Miranda Lambert Recently Lost Two of Her Horses

The loss of Cher comes just one month after Miranda announced the passing of two of her miniature horses, Sugar Pie and Adrianna.

“My sweet little nugget’s Sugar Pie and Adrianna crossed over the rainbow bridge today,” she shared via Instagram on November 20. “I’ve had 18 years with these littles and I can’t tell you how much joy they brought me. The best part about being an animal mom is the joy.”

The “Tin Man” singer added, “The worst part is when the time comes to say goodbye. Full of gratitude for them and for Tommy, Julia and Sarah and everyone who helped take care of them and give them the best life when I was on the road all these years. Godspeed little bitty’s. I know you are both in greener pastures as I type this. I’ll see y’all again one day.”
