My Chemical Romance quizzed over Baldur’s Gate 3 during concert break

Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance has discussed Baldur’s Gate 3 during a recent concert, attracting the attention of developer Larian Studios.

Celebrities being gamers is nothing new – just last week, Millie Bobby Brown admitted to loving the GTA series – and yet it’s still always surprising when one of them confesses to enjoying them in public.

Although in this latest instance, the shock comes not from what a celebrity has played, but what they haven’t played.

During a recent live show for emo rock band My Chemical Romance, the band’s lead vocalist Gerard Way publicly admitted that despite being a Dungeons & Dragons fan, he’s yet to play Baldur’s Gate 3.

This wasn’t something he said unprompted. Fan Katana Luciana from TikTok attended the show to hold up a sign reading, ‘Have you played Baldur’s Gate 3?’

One of Way’s bandmates drew his attention to the sign during a break between songs, to which Way admitted he’s not even played Baldur’s Gate 2, although he is a fan of the very first Baldur’s Gate from the late 90s.

‘No, I only played Baldur’s Gate 1. Not that I probably wouldn’t have liked 2 or 3. I did play the Icewind Dale expansion [actually, Icewind Dales is a separate game – GC], but I just ran out of time,’ said Way, before asking if Baldur’s Gate 3 is good, which elicited a massive cheer from the audience.

‘I would assume so. The first one was a lot of fun. You know, it was the closest thing at the time to playing [Dungeons & Dragons],’ Way added.

Long-time fans of Way’s work might be taken aback by this, as he’s a big enough Dungeons & Dragons fan to have lent his voice to a themed pinball machine that released last year.

Considering how meaty of a game Baldur’s Gate 3 is, though, Way may simply just not have had the time for it, but perhaps the audience reaction will push him into at least sampling the game.

At the very least, he can secure himself a free copy as developer Larian Studios has tagged him on X to offer a ‘code with your name on it,’ although Way hasn’t responded at time of writing.

As a reminder, Larian is currently working on a new entry in its Divinity role-playing series, while Dungeons & Dragons owner Hasbro intends to pass Baldur’s Gate 4 onto a different developer – although they haven’t said which yet.

Way’s Baldur’s Gate confession isn’t the only surprising thing to come out of My Chemical Romance’s new tour, as during one show earlier this month, Way let out a poorly timed burp while performing one of the band’s more emotional songs, which fans found hilarious.
