Nancy Guthrie case update

Authorities in Arizona are once again asking for the public’s help in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, three months after she was last seen.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed in a fresh statement to Fox News Digital on Friday, May 1, that the case remains active, with investigators continuing to follow new leads as they search for answers.

Nancy was last seen on the evening of Friday, January 31, at her longtime home in the Catalina Foothills, north of Tucson, Arizona. Investigators believe she was taken from her bedroom in what has been described as a suspected abduction.

Despite months of searching, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.

Officials reiterate that community tips remain critical as the investigation continues. The renewed call for information comes as law enforcement works closely with the FBI to piece together what happened.

Nancy’s disappearance has drawn widespread attention, with ongoing efforts focused on gathering any details that could move the case forward.

The sheriff’s department emphasized that even the smallest piece of information could prove valuable.

In recent weeks, investigators have turned to forensic testing in hopes of identifying a suspect. A private lab in Florida submitted DNA evidence, including a hair sample, to the FBI for analysis.

Experts say the process can take time, but it may offer a path toward answers.

“It can take months,” genetic genealogist CeCe Moore told NewsNation on April 19. “In my experience with them, I’ve already helped law enforcement solve six cases using rootless hair alone. And so, I know it can be done. My guess is that because this is not a cold case yet, and most of the cases are where we’re using rootless hair, that they will push this to the top of the priority list and get it done more quickly.”

A retired agent has also suggested that evidence at the scene may point to a single abductor, though authorities have not confirmed that theory.

Savannah has largely stayed out of the spotlight throughout the ordeal, though she has continued to share updates and heartfelt appeals on behalf of her mother.

She returned to her role on “Today” on Sunday, April 6, marking her first appearance since Nancy’s disappearance.

The search effort is backed by multiple reward offers, including $1 million from Savannah, $100,000 from the FBI, and an additional $100,000 from other sources.

Even as time passes, authorities and the Guthrie family continue to hold onto hope that new information will bring answers.

Anyone with information is urged to contact 88-CRIME or the FBI tip line at 1-800-225-5324.
