Nancy Guthrie Update: Why Annie & Tommaso Have Gone Quiet Amid Investigation – Expert Weighs In

Nancy Guthrie

A retired FBI agent shared her thoughts on why Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni are lying low amid the Nancy Guthrie investigation.

Jennifer Coffindaffer, who has been closely monitoring the high-profile case, told TMZ that the couple is keeping a low profile, likely because some people are still pointing fingers at them.

Since the beginning of the investigation, Annie and Tommaso have found themselves at the center of speculation, with some alleging they were involved in the abduction.

The multiple investigative activities carried out at their home and vehicle also fueled further conspiracy theories.

“The reason I believe they’re lying so low right now is because, can you imagine the people still fingerpointing at them?” Coffindaffer explained.

Nancy Guthrie Update: Retired FBI Agent Breaks Down Possible Reasons Annie & Tommaso Are Lying Low

Coffindaffer believes conspiracy theories linking Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni to the Nancy Guthrie abduction are creating more problems for them than the public realizes.

“In fact, I used to be able to find Tommaso Cioni on their list of teachers at the school that he teaches at. I can’t find that anymore,” the retired FBI agent revealed. “Of course, that could be for a lot of reasons. Maybe they’ve changed how they do their website. Maybe they are keeping him off of there because of all the heat that the school would be taking.”

Coffindaffer continued, “Whenever you have a mob of social media conspiracy theorists that believe no matter what’s put out by law enforcement, that somebody’s involved, you are going to have a heavy presence of bullying and of trying to find Annie and Tomaso and following them and causing issues. So I think in large part that’s why they are lying low.”

Retired FBI Agent Weighs In on Major Shift in Nancy Guthrie Investigation

Coffindaffer also shared her thoughts on Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos no longer being in direct communication with Nancy Guthrie’s family.

Previously, Nanos told PEOPLE magazine that the FBI is now leading communications with “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie and her siblings regarding the case. However, he is still in charge of the investigation.

“The public is frustrated. Even the Guthrie family,” Nanos told the outlet. “Every passing second must feel like 100 days because they don’t know. What matters is moving forward carefully so we don’t make mistakes or falsely accuse somebody or make a bad arrest.”

Coffindaffer thinks this setup raises red flags. “Look, at the end of the day, it’s his jurisdiction, he has venue,” she told TMZ. “He 100% is the adjudicating authority in this particular case right now, unless it is determined that Nancy was taken across state lines or across the international border.”

She continued, “Venue lies with him. So it makes no sense that, as the person responsible for this investigation, he is not communicating with the victim’s family and that, apparently, has been passed off solely to the FBI.”

Nancy Guthrie has now been missing for over 100 days, and investigators have yet to identify any suspects.
