Netflix has officially announced that its hit series âHearstopperâ will no longer return for a fourth season, instead concluding in a feature length film which is set to begin filming in Summer 2025. The series, which stars Joe Locke as Charlie Spring and Kit Connor as Nick Nelson, is based on the popular graphic novel series of the same name penned by Alice Oseman.Â
Kit Connor and Joe Locke Set to Return for Film Finale
The upcoming film is set to be directed by Wash Westmoreland (âColetteâ) and will be based on Osemanâs as-yet-unpublished sixth volume in the graphic novel series. The first three seasons of âHeartstopperâ saw Nick and Charlieâs relationship grow from friendship to love as the pair faced challenges at home, at school, and on the rugby pitch.
Connor and Locke are set to reprise their respective roles in the feature film despite the fact that both actors have landed high-profile gigs following their appearance on âHeartstopper.â Since the series launched in 2022, Connor has starred as Romeo in the Broadway production âRomeo + Juliet,â the 2024 animated film âThe Wild Robot,â and, most recently, in âWarfareâ alongside actors like Will Poulter, Joseph Quinn, and Noah Centineo. Locke, on the other hand, has since starred in the role of Billy Kaplan (Wiccan) in the MCU Disney+ series âAgatha All Along.â
Both Locke and Connor will be credited as executive producers of the upcoming film, noted Netflix in a post on its official blog, Tudum. As of yet, no other âHeartstopperâ cast members have been confirmed to appear in the project.

âI am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the âHearstopperâ story,â said Oseman in a statement. âIâm so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of âHeartstopperâ for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.â
What to Expect From the Upcoming âHeartstopperâ Film
The most recent season of âHeartstopperâ aired in 2024 and concluded with Nick and Charlie having sex for the first time. The series, which is known for its teenage-friendly approach to LGBTQ+ relationships, has been well received by fans and critics, taking home a number of awards, as well as earning a spot on Netflix’s Top 10 chart just two days after the first season dropped on the streaming platform.
A synopsis for the upcoming film suggests that it will see Nick and Charlie as they struggle to face the challenges of a long-distance relationship as Nick [Connor] goes away to university.
âNick and Charlie are inseparable, but with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them,â reads the movieâs official logline. âDoubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet. Meanwhile, their friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on. Can first loves really last forever?â
Oseman, who is similarly an executive producer for the Netflix series, told fans, âWe are making a feature film to conclude the âHearstopperâ screen adaptation, based on âHeartstopperâ Volume 6 and the âNick and Charlieâ novella. We are getting to tell the end of the story!!! Iâm deeply relieved and so excited about this new creative venture. Iâve written the script and weâre hard at work already. I know youâll have a lot of questions, and Iâll be able to talk about it more very soon, but for now letâs CELEBRATE! âHearstopperâ is getting its ending!â
