As fans count the minutes until the GTA 6 Netflix show, the exact amount of footage it will feature seems to have been revealed ahead of time.
Grand Theft Auto 6 was officially announced in February 2022 (although work had begun as early as 2014) and in all that time developer Rockstar Games has only released two trailers, with a combined 4 minutes and 30 seconds of footage.
None of that footage has been raw gameplay, so it’s no surprise that fans have sought to fill the gap with wild speculation and an ongoing series of leaks, from someone who has, inexplicably, managed to get a hold of a working copy of the game long before its November 19 launch.
In comments made earlier this week, in reaction to the leaks, Rockstar came close to admitting they may have played things a little too close to their chest, but the secrecy should finally end tonight, with a Netflix special called GTA 6 An Extended Look.
The only problem with the Netflix show is that, predictably, that’s shrouded in secrecy as well. There are rumours that it may actually be three episodes, instead of just a one-off, and there’s currently no official indication of how long it is.
Since nothing like this has ever happened before it could be anything from an hour long special to a 10 minute trailer, not much different from what Rockstar usually posts on YouTube.

The former always seemed more likely though and now DiscussingFilm has claimed that the show will feature ’26 minutes of gameplay captured on PlayStation 5.’
Unfortunately, that’s all they’ve said, so there’s no indication where the information has come from or if it’s literally just 26 minutes of nothing but gameplay or a larger show with 26 minutes of gameplay spread across it.
It seems more likely that Rockstar would put together some sort of pseudo-documentary, with talking heads and celebrity cameos (especially as the game is no doubt filled with voice roles from famous people) but really, we’ll just have to wait and see.
The show is set to go live on Netflix at 8pm BST, with the official description simply saying, ‘See the premier of an extended look at Grand Theft Auto 6, the next evolution in the groundbreaking Grand Theft Auto series, on August 27.’
Whatever the show is, it will be available on YouTube as well, but you’ll have to wait six hours for it to appear there, which works out as 2am in the morning in the UK.
Despite the constant stream of leaks the past few weeks, none of them revealed anything very substantial. Instead, the most interesting information has come from an early preview from fashion magazine Dazed, which suggests that the game is a lot more realistic than previous Grand Theft Auto titles, to the point where some fans may not appreciate the new restrictions on what they can do.
