Before the tragic killing of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, Nick Reiner was not kicked out of his parents house the night before this occurred, TMZ reports.
“A source with direct knowledge tells TMZ, Nick left on his own accord,” the outlet wrote. “We do not know the circumstances under which Nick decided to leave. TMZ broke the story he and Rob got into a heated argument at Conan’s party … but itâs unclear if the exchange continued back at the Reiner residence.”
“Our sources confirm ⦠Nick was not mentally sound in the period of time leading up to the murders,” they added. “A source with direct knowledge tells TMZ ⦠Nick’s mental instability went beyond consuming illegal substances. We’re told prescription drugs “messed with his head.”
Rob and, Michele were killed in their home on Sunday, Dec. 14, and Nick now faces murder charges in the deaths of his parents. He appeared in court on Wednesday, Dec. 17, having arrived inâ a blue sleeveless vest and shackles, was seated behind glass in court and stared blankly as his lawyer, Alan Jackson, declined to enter a plea for his client,â according to PEOPLE.
Nick Reiner Appeared ‘Drained’ Before Parents Murder
In the days leading up to his parents’ passing, an employee at the gas station Nick often visited described him as “drained” and “abnormal,” TMZ reports.
“One employee tells us they last saw Nick about two weeks ago, recalling he looked tired and was unusually standoffish,” the outlet detailed. “At the time, Nick purchased a pack of Marlboro Lights, which employees say was routine for him. They add that he did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”
What Happened At Conan O’Brien’s Holiday Party
The night before they were killed, Rob and Michele were at a holiday party at Conan OâBrienâs home with their son Nick, according to the Los Angeles Times.
âFamily friends told The Times that Rob and Nick got into an argument on Saturday evening at a party at Conan OâBrienâs home and that many people noticed Nick acting strangely at the party,â the Los Angeles Times reported.
TMZ added that the actor and Nick got into a âvery loud argument,â which was â loud enough for many others to hear.â
âWeâre told Rob and Michele then left the party,â they added. âWe do not know if Nick left as well.â
The New York Post then provided some additional insight into the Holiday Party where the altercation between Reiner and his son first began, reporting that Nick ââfreaked outâ everyone and left Reiner terrified of what he would do next, pals said.â
The outlet added that the argument was âpossibly because Nick was back on drugs and refusing yet another go at treatment after at least 17 stints in rehab since age 15, sources told The Post on Monday.â
