In February, Amazon MGM Studios announced a joint venture with Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for the James Bond franchise rights. With this, it gave Amazon MGM Studios creative control of the James Bond franchise.

“Since his theatrical introduction over 60 years ago, James Bond has been one of the most iconic characters in filmed entertainment,” head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios Mike Hopkins said. “We are honoured to continue this treasured heritage, and look forward to ushering in the next phase of the legendary 007 for audiences around the world.”

“With my 007 career spanning nearly 60 incredible years, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects,” Wilson explained in the press release. “Therefore, Barbara and I agree, it is time for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to lead James Bond into the future.”

“I have had the honour of working closely with four of the tremendously talented actors who have played 007 and thousands of wonderful artists within the industry,” Broccoli commented. “With the conclusion of No Time to Die and Michael retiring from the films, I feel it is time to focus on my other projects.”

The concept of James Bond was first created by novelist Ian Fleming in 1953, and the filming rights to the novels were purchased in 1961. Sean Connery was named the first Bond in the movie “Dr. No,” which came out in 1962. Connery went on to star in “From Russia With Love” (1963), “Goldfinger” (1964), “Thunderball” (1965), and “You Only Live Twice” (1967).

George Lazenby played Bond in 1969 in the movie “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” Connery then returned for one more, starring in “Diamonds Are Forever” (1971).

Roger Moore took over in 1974, starring in “The Man with the Golden Gun.” He continued as Bond in numerous other movies, including “The Spy Who Loved Me” (1977), “Moonraker” (1979), “For Your Eyes Only” (1981), “Octopussy (1983), and “A View to a Kill” (1985).

In 1987’s “The Living Daylights,” Timothy Dalton became the new Bond, going on to appear in “License to Kill” in 1989. But then, it was Pierce Brosnan’s turn.

Brosnan starred in “GoldenEye” (1995), “Tomorrow Never Dies” (1997), “The World Is Not Enough” (1999), and “Die Another Day” (2002).

In 2006, Daniel Craig was next up in the hit franchise, starring in “Casino Royale. He went on to play Bond in “Quantum of Solace” (2008), “Skyfall” (2012), “Spectre” (2015), and “No Time to Die” (2021).
