Celebrity Traitors star Nick Mohammed has revealed that contestants weren’t even allowed to know the time until they pushed back.

The BBC reality series is back and bigger than ever, with mammoth audiences, some of the best TV moments of the year (Alan Carr laughing as he declared himself a ‘Faithful’), and the usual enticing race to see if the Traitors can be found.

As the inaugural all-star season, the famous faces are reflecting on their experiences in the Highland Castle with host Claudia Winkleman, revealing just how mind-bending their time on set became.

In a new interview on Stuart Goldsmith’s The Comedian’s Comedian podcast, finalist Nick Mohammed spoke about the one ‘basic human right’, the contestants protested against being removed.

Amid his ample praise for the show and the production team, the Ted Lasso star gave an insight into what exactly happens behind the scenes to get the stars into the zone.

‘All your devices are taken from you. I was allowed one phone conversation a day with the kids. You are isolated from the outside world.

‘We weren’t even allowed to know the time. So when we were in the castle, you’d be like: “What’s the time?” And they’d be like: “It’s Traitors time”,’ he said.

Then continued: ”Every single member of production had to just answer with that until someone kicked off and they said: “It’s a basic human right, you can just tell us the time, it doesn’t mean anything!”.’

Although he was quick to caveat at the end that ‘they are so clever but in the best possible way’.

Elsewhere, the actor, who is best known for his character Mr Swallow, admitted he was ‘reluctant to do anything as me’ which was his initial reservation for going on the show (having previously turned down other reality shows).

But, much like Stephen Fry’s eventual motivation to say yes, it’s difficult to say no to The Traitors given its already iconic status.

The BBC is precious about keeping the secrets of production well-hidden, and banished Traitor Jonathan Ross got a bit of a telling off after spilling too much about what viewers don’t get to see.

On his podcast, Reel Talk, Jonathan Ross claims he had to be reminded of what he isn’t ‘allowed to talk about’ Ken McKay/ITV/Shutterstock)

Namely, the devastating blow that there are plenty of hilarious Alan Carr moments that didn’t make the final cut.

In a recent episode of Reel Talk, he revealed that after sharing this tidbit, he was sent a ‘comprehensive list’ of what can and can’t be spoken about, as well as a reminder of his contract.

‘He said at the time: ‘I didn’t realise, but I’m not allowed to talk about the stuff that’s edited out, which I can understand why.’

‘So I’ll skirt around as much as possible and not break any rules.’

Before adding: ‘And most of it, I can see, is to protect the integrity of the game as a viewing experience for people. So it makes perfect sense.’

We’re heading into the dramatic finale on Thursday as Faithfuls Nick, Joe Marler and David Olusoga attempt to weed out the remaining snakes, Alan Carr and Cat Burns, to secure the prize pot.

But after making it this far into the game, Alan and Cat won’t be going down without a fight. Meanwhile, Joe has figured out exactly who the traitors are, now he just needs to convince everyone else, so it truly is all to play for.

Celebrity Traitors returns for the extra-long finale at 9pm on Thursday, November 6.
