Another familiar face is leaving âChicago Med.â After nearly a decade in scrubs, original cast member Marlyne Barrett, whoâs played beloved charge nurse Maggie Lockwood since the series premiere in 2015, will not be returning for season 11.
Leaving âChicago Medâ For Personal Reasons
While most characters on television shows will leave because of the scripted storyline, thatâs not the case for Barrett. Parade wrote that her exit is attributed to personal reasons, as the NBC medical drama sees a major shift in its lineup and fan-favorite characters.
Since Barrett is leaving for personal reasons, that leaves the door open for her potential return at a later date.
Barrettâs departure is the third cast member leaving the show before the season 11 premiere of âChicago Medâ on October 1 at 8/7c on NBC.
The other cast members leaving are John Earl Jelks, who played Dr. Dennis Washington. He was written out as part of a budget-cut storyline. Then Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut, who played Dr. Naomi Howard, will not return, also after her character was caught up in a #MeToo storyline, so she resigned to get a fresh start somewhere else.
Other Original âChicago Medâ Cast Members
With Barrett leaving âChicago Med,â we now have only two original cast members remaining for the medical drama: Oliver Platt, who plays Dr. Daniel Charles, chief of the psychiatry department, and S. Epatha Merkerson, who plays Sharon Goodwin, the chief administrator at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center.
While the show is losing another original cast member, it looks like they will be getting one back for season 11. Original cast member Nick Gehlfuss, who exited the show two years ago, will be returning for season 11 for an indeterminate guest appearance. Gehlfuss will be reprising his role as Dr. Will Halstead. He portrayed Dr. Halstead from the series premiere in 2015 through 2023, leaving after the season 8 finale.

No Maggie on âChicago Med?â It almost seems like it couldnât be possible, but fans are showing their love on social media.
One fan wrote, âNooooo I love her as Maggie !! I hope she comes back sheâs one of my favorites on Chicago Med,ð¢ð¢,â while another added, âNooo not Maggie!! ð¢â
The love continued, as one fan wrote, âI hope she pulls a will and comes back after a year. Maybe she just needs a rest,â while another commented, âI hope it is not her health. Best wishes.â
