Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau sparked romance rumors when they were spotted dining together two before the Canadian prime minister was spotted singing along at Perry’s show in Montreal on July 30, 2025.
Now, Katy Perry’s ex-fiancé and father of her child, Orlando Bloom, has reacted to the rumors on social media.
It all happened when satire site The Onion jokingly posted a photoshopped picture on Instagram with the headline, “Orlando Bloom Spotted at Dinner With Angela Merkel,” obviously referencing Perry and Trudeau’s recent rendezvous by pairing Bloom up with the retired German chancellor.
Bloom reacted good-naturedly to the joke, leaving three applause emojis in the comments.

After Bloom left the clapping emojis on the post, over a dozen fans replied to his reaction in the comments.
One fan called him “my unbothered king.”
Another said, “As a Canadian, I approve this. High fives.”
“Orlando and Katy trying to show each other who gets the biggest, retired, politician is the drama I can do without. But itâs great to see famous people theyâre just like us,” joked someone else.
People Says Perry & Trudeau Shared ‘Instant Connection’
In an exclusive August 2 report, People said they learned from an unnamed insider that the pop star and politician are interested in “exploring their connection,” but their busy schedules could make that challenging.
“She is traveling around the world, and he is figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada, but there is an attraction,” the magazine says they were told by the source. They also say the insider told them “there is an attraction.”
The magazine also says another source, this one from Canada, revealed Trudeau knew he and Perry were being watched at the dinner, and is “smart enough to play it low-key for now.”
According to CBC, PR expert Natasha Koifman called the meet-up “a really great brand and reputational move.”
“IÂ think that that was actually probably a strategic move. I think it elevates both of their brands, for very different reasons, to actually be seen together,” the outlet says she told them.
The report says another expert, Eric Schiffer, suggested Perry and Trudeau could help eachother “rebuild” their images after both recently received some criticism and bad press.
Perry has been called out-of-touch for her Space X excursion, while Trudeau’s political poll numbers were dipping before he retired in 2025.
