“Paper Tiger” star Miles Teller had an amazing time at the Cannes Film Festival. The new James Gray film was nominated for the Palme d’Or, which is the highest honor given to the director who wins the Best Feature Film at the festival.
Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson star alongside Miles Teller. The film explores two brothers who become entangled in a confrontation with the Russian mafia.
With all eyes on the “Paper Tiger” cast and crew, many news outlets would love to speak with Miles Teller about the project. In previous years, the actor has largely stepped away from off-camera interviews.
Now, the actor wants to share his side of the story and take charge of his own narrative.
Miles Teller Stepped Back From Interviews After One Completely Derailed
In a new interview, IndieWire discussed Miles Teller’s amazing roles and said his work in “Paper Tiger” spoke for itself. The interviewer suggested that the excellent work was painting the actor in a more positive light, counteracting previous bad press.
In 2015, Esquire described Teller as incredibly pompous. The actor was 28 at the time. Since then, he’s felt hesitant to give interviews.
“That was so mishandled. The reason why I have not done profiles is because I said, ‘Wow, if Iâm not doing this interview on camera, this person can misquote things or put things out of order or say things that didnât happen,’â Teller told IndieWire.
“It felt like such a violation of what actually transpired. I told my team, ‘Guys, I donât think Iâm doing this again, because Iâm reading this and this doesnât sound like me to me,” he continued. “This is not life, so why would I ever want to be a part of something where they can just put that in?’ So itâs unfortunate that being a good person, that doesnât sell. People want to click on the negativity.
“If you go to bed and put your head on your pillow and how you treat people truly, thatâs what matters. That interview was like 12 years ago,” Teller firmly stated.
The ‘Paper Tiger’ Actor Delves Into His History In the Entertainment World
As Miles Teller has grown in his acting career, he’s had to make many challenging decisions about his work.
“Early on, I didnât want to feel like I was repeating what I had just done. I didnât want people to be able to expect what I was going to do next,” Teller continued while speaking to IndieWire. “I always want to defend young actors in their careers, because people say, ‘Oh, why did you make that choice? Why did they make that choice?’”
“Youâre just hoping to get a role, and itâs less than 10 percent of people in SAG who pay their bills off acting alone,” the actor shared. “We all want to work on the best material with the best directors and the best actors. Thereâs an ebb and flow. I used to be more critical of work other people were doing, because you get thrown into this rat race when youâre first starting out.”
Fortunately for Miles Teller and the rest of the cast, it seems that “Paper Tiger” was a massive success. Deadline reports the film received a 10-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. Fans remain excited to see it when it’s released to the wider public.
