Patrick Kielty has thanked fans for offering him ‘love and support’ following his split from Cat Deeley during his first TV appearance since their split.
Two months ago, This Morning host Cat, 48, and The Late Late Show host, 54, announced their separation after more than a decade of marriage.
‘We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved,’ they shared in a statement.
‘We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected. There will be no further comment.’
The TV stars met while presenting Fame Academy together in 2003, going on to get married in Rome in 2012 and welcome sons Milo and James, in 2016 and 2018.
Overnight Patrick made his return to the Irish late-night programme, which he’s hosted since 2023, and addressed his recent marriage break-down.
During the opening of the new season of his RTÉ chat show Patrick – who was not wearing his wedding ring – thanked viewers for their ongoing support.
‘Honestly, it is so nice to be back with you, especially after this summer where I have genuinely been blown away by all of the love and support that you guys have sent my way.
‘One of the greatest joys of hosting this show is that you’re never alone.
‘So, to all of you who have been so kind to me and my family these past few months, can I just say a huge go raibh míle maith agat [thank you very much].’
He went on to add: ‘It’s one of the many reasons why walking out here is always a privilege, why being back here tonight truly puts flesh on my bones and why it never gets old to say these words: Welcome to The Late Late Show!’
Wrapping up his intro, Patrick was then met by applause from the studio audience before the show then kicked off.
Earlier this month Cat also made her TV return to This Morning after the summer break, telling viewers she’d had a ‘lovely summer’.
‘It really is [lovely to be back],’ she began. ‘We had a really lovely summer, though. Lots of beach action, family, friends, kids, ice creams as big as your head – all that kinda stuff, it’s been really fabulous.’
She concluded: ‘I’ll tell you what, though, I was really excited to come back to work. It’s a bit weird. My littlest is starting his new school today, so he’s got to wear a blazer, and he’s popped the collar already.’
Patrick’s statement comes a few days after Cat was spotted attending the National Television Awards in London – being seen wearing her wedding ring while walking the red carpet.
It came after she had also previously been photographed wearing her wedding ring on her right hand.
Soon after the couple’s split was announced, a source claimed that Patrick’s family knew his marriage was ‘over’ months ago, which came after Cat didn’t attend her mother-in-law’s funeral in March.
‘Whatever rockiness was going on in the marriage, something as momentous as his mother’s funeral, you would make up even temporarily and just put your “best face” on as we say in Northern Ireland,’ a source said at the time.
‘Cat obviously knew how close Patrick was to Mary, and she should have come to be by his side, a hand on his shoulder as he buried his mother.
‘The fact that she stayed in London and presented This Morning on the day, it’s not been forgotten.’
Soon after a spokesperson for Cat said she’d stayed in the UK to be with her sons, aged 7 and 5.
