Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi

Beloved actor Patrick Swayze and his wife Lisa Niemi shared a blissfully happy marriage from 1975 up until his tragic 2009 passing.

Now, Lisa Niemi is bravely stepping forward and revealing more about the actor’s final days and what they kept private.

Patrick Swayze’s Wife Lisa Niemi Opens Up About His Final Days

Dealing with a cancer diagnosis is challenging enough for any family. But due to Patrick Swayze’s fame, Lisa Niemi confessed to Us Weekly that they needed to keep “so much hidden.”

“It was being thrown into an instant nightmare,” the “One Last Dance” actress revealed. “One thing that I did, that was not great, was hold on to so much hope and positivity and optimism. We all knew how this would, in all likelihood, end, but we held out hope that he would be the one that would make it through. Because there have been people.”

Initially, doctors gave Patrick Swayze approximately five months to live. Thankfully, he lived another 22 months. It was less time than his loved ones wanted, but Lisa expressed gratitude for any extra moments with him. Patrick kept acting even though he was fighting for his life.

Amid all the tragedy and heartbreak, Lisa keeps her late husband in her heart and mind to this day.

“One of the things about losing someone is every day, almost, I’m on this farm with these beautiful horses and I go, ‘Oh gosh, I wish I could see this right now. I wish I could see the sunset. If only he were here. I could share this with him,’” Lisa shared. “But I talk to him, I feel him. I hear his voice in my head. He gives me advice, and I am absolutely certain that he is there whenever I need him. And I still have pictures all around of Patrick.”

Lisa Niemi Found Love Again After Losing Her Husband of 34 Years

After Patrick Swayze passed away, his widow initially thought part of herself died with him. However, she chose to keep going and even raises awareness for pancreatic cancer to this day.

“When did you know it was the right time to let yourself love again after loving someone else for so long?” Us Weekly asked Lisa.

“The loving part took me totally by surprise,” she replied. “Patrick and I were married for 34 years and I pretty much spent my entire adult life with him. To be without that meaningful relationship was very hard and extremely lonely. I was much lonelier than I would have admitted at that time.”

In 2014, Lisa Niemi remarried Albert DePrisco. Although falling in love again felt strange and foreign at first, she did open her heart again. Even so, her love for Patrick Swayze never faded.

“I asked Albert, ‘Does it bother you that I still love Patrick?’ And he said, ‘I know you do. But I’m here to love you now.’ And he knows that I can love Patrick, and I can love him. And as a good friend of mine once said, ‘Love comes from the same well, and when you still have a lot of love to give, you know you’re lucky to find someone to give it to.’”
