Lisa Niemi Swayze, the widow of late “Dirty Dancing” actor Patrick Swayze, is looking forward to watching the sequel to the beloved 1987 film.

Lisa revealed during an interview with Us Weekly that she has read the script for the upcoming film and shared her honest opinions.

“I actually got to read the script,” Lisa told Us Weekly in an interview published on Saturday, April 18. “I was very moved by it.”

She continued, “I’ll be very curious to see how it comes about. I wish [them] the best of luck. They’ve been working on it [for] quite a while. And I can’t wait to see it.”

Patrick Swayze was an icon of the 1980s and 1990s, starring in films such as “Ghost” and “Point Break.” The beloved star was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in January 2008. After a brave battle with the disease, including chemotherapy and surgery, Swayze passed away on September 14, 2009. He was just 57.

Lisa revealed that her late husband’s iconic character, Johnny Castle, is incorporated into the sequel. She told Us Weekly that she appreciated how the script “treated the handling” of Castle.

In a statement to Us Weekly about the loss of her husband, Lisa added, “One of the things about losing someone is every day, almost, I’m on this farm with these beautiful horses and I go, ‘Oh gosh, I wish I could see this right now. I wish I could see the sunset. If only he were here. I could share this with him.’”

Jennifer Grey Will Reprise Her Role

Jennifer Grey — who starred alongside Swayze as Frances “Baby” Houseman — signed on to reprise her role. She will also star as executive producer on the project.

“The role of Baby has held a very deep and meaningful place in my heart, as it has in the hearts of so many fans over the years,” Grey shared in a January press release, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve long wondered where we might find Baby years later and what her life might be like, but it’s taken time to assemble the kind of people that I felt could be entrusted to build on the legacy of the original film.”

Nina Jacobson, one of the film’s producers, added, “Dirty Dancing is that rare film that is as emotional, exhilarating and rebellious today as it was the year it was released. To be able to work with Jennifer Grey and Lionsgate on the sequel is a genuine joy for Brad and me. We feel so fortunate to have been invited back to Kellerman’s for one more dance.”
