Paul Rudd is well-liked in the entertainment industry, and he has had a phenomenal career, but there was a time in his life when he had an unpleasant run-in with the law. In a new interview, he recalls this haunting moment.
Paul Rudd Recalls Getting in Trouble With Law Enforcement
In an interview on Benny Blanco and Lil Dickyâs podcast âFriends Keep Secrets,â published on Tuesday, May 19, the âAnt-Manâ actor was asked whether he had âever been arrested?â Rudd gave an honest and somewhat surprising response to the question.Â
âTwo times, when I was a teenager,â he replied. âOne time I was in a car, I was riding shotgun, my friend Mike was driving, and we had water guns.â He explained how his friends were driving in another car alongside them, being goofy and âjust having a water gun fight.” He added, âWe were just being rascals.â
During what they felt was harmful fun, a policeman started following them. âThis cop was a super psycho,â Rudd said. He and his friend Mike stopped the car and had to get out. âHe has a gun trained on us,â Rudd recalled. âAnd he comes walking around the side, and he says, âAlright, boy. Slowly, real slowly, hand over that water gun. And you better pray itâs a water gun.’ And he has a gun on me. Iâm like 16.â Rudd is now 57.
The incident did not end there. After handing over their water guns, both Rudd and his friend were written up. âHe wrote both of us up, and he gave Mike a ticket for reckless driving, and he gave me accomplice to reckless driving,â Rudd said. âHe said it was âcause you swerved into another lane.â I was like, âWhat? No.â But anyway, maybe he was just trying to teach us a lesson. I wound up having to go to a court for that.â
Fans Praise Paul Rudd
The second time Rudd got into legal trouble was during his freshman year in college in Lawrence, Kansas. âI was in Lawrence, Kansas, hanging outside of a bar called The Bull,â he recalled. âI was kind of new to drinking, Iâll be honest with you.â He was holding a drink in his hand, and he was underage, and when he saw two officers approaching, he âjust dumped it.â
The cops pulled him over. âHe was like, âWas that yours?â I was like, âYeah, I wasnât drinking it though,’â Rudd said. Of course, they did not believe him, and he ended up serving community service hours by working at the Boys & Girls Club.
The interview was shared on YouTube, allowing fans to react to Rudd’s remarks and express their love for him. âMy first intro to Paul Rudd was role models and to date that’s still one of my favorite movies one of the goats,â a fan wrote. âLove it when generations can relax, share and relate to each other. PR is phenomenal. Love that heâs appreciated by the younger adults,â another person shared.
