As the UK faces extreme heatwaves and looming thunderstorms, the job of a weather presenter is difficult enough at the moment without the added distraction of a wild Peter Kay causing mayhem.
However, for Molly Brewer on BBC North West Tonight, the reporter faced the difficult task of presenting this weekend’s weather with the help of Phoenix Nights star Peter.
As Molly began to reveal how a yellow thunderstorm warning is in place for tomorrow night, Peter can be seen creeping onto the stage and playing in the green screen.
Barely able to contain her laughter, Molly tried her best to continue with the news while the Car Share comedian lay on the floor and rolled around.
Amazingly, it turns out that this was not Peter’s first time interrupting the news.
In 2011, the comedian similarly interrupted the late Dianne Oxberry’s forecast on BBC North West Tonight.
After discussing his sold-out comedy shows, Peter crawled onto Dianne’s screen in an attempt to put her off.
Dianne, who died in 2019 at the age of 51 after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer, joked at the time that she would copy his behaviour and ‘come to one of your concerts and come on stage and just creep in alongside you’.
Discussing her interruption last night, Molly wrote on social media that she ‘definitely didn’t deal with this as well as Dianne, that’s for sure’.
Responding to the clip of the interruption on Instagram, users described the moment as ‘iconic’, as they praised Molly’s handling of the situation.
One user, called Sarah, commented: ‘This is epic! Well done @moll_brewer, absolutely amazing double act.’
Meanwhile, Jade added: ‘The crossover we never knew we needed.’
James similarly wrote: ‘This is absolutely incredible,’ while Jane said: ‘Aw @moll_brewer I felt for you but you did brilliantly👏’
This comes after a weather reporter in the US begged for a broadcast to stop after breaking down in hysterics.
Patrick Osborn was reporting on the weather in Maine for WABI TV 5 when his voice began to crack.
Instantly, things descended into chaos as he let out a comically high-pitched squeal while he attempted to catch his breath.
