Phil Collins Hospitalized

Phil Collins

Phil Collins is in the hospital for knee surgery.

His representative told TMZ on Saturday, July 26, that he is doing just fine after rumors started to circulate online that he was in hospice care.

Fans were concerned as multiple celebrities had already passed away over the last week — “The Cosby Show” actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne and WWE icon Hulk Hogan.

The representative added that the Genesis frontman and drummer is nowhere near death, according to the outlet.

Collins Previously Disclosed He Was Having Health Problems

The “In the Air Tonight” singer previously suffered severe nerve damage after a spinal injury in 2007. His mobility severely decreased, which caused him to perform sitting down during Genesis’ final concerts in 2022.

In June of 2025, Collins disclosed to MOJO that he no longer felt the drive to make music as his health had become worse.

“I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens,” Collins told the outlet. “But I’m not hungry for it anymore. The thing is, I’ve been sick, I mean very sick…”

Peter Gabriel, who was a founding member of Genesis, told the outlet he ended up attending the last show and commented on Collins’ health.

“Phil wasn’t in as great a shape as he used to be, but they did a great job,” he said. “Me going was a rite of passage, really. I’d been part of the creation of Genesis, so I wanted to be there at the end.”

The Oscar winner further opened up during his 2024 documentary “Phil Collins: Drummer First.”

“The drumming has taken its toll on my hands (and) legs,” he bravely told the cameras.

The now 74-year-old added that it is difficult to no longer be able to play. “It’s still kind of sinking in a bit. I spent all my life playing drums. To suddenly not be able to do that is a shock,” he added.

His Final Show Was in March 2022

The “You’ll Be in My Heart” singer wrapped up his impressive career with a final show in March of 2022.

His daughter Lily Collins shared a touching post after the show.

“Tonite marks the end of an era. To have witnessed this last show was truly the memory of a lifetime and an event I shall hold in my heart forever,” she wrote. “Endlessly grateful doesn’t begin to do it justice.”

She continued, “Thank you @genesis_band for the memories, thank you dad for being such an inspiration and thank you @nic_collins for making me the proudest sister there is.”

Her half-brother Nic Collins shared his own post and expressed how grateful he was to be able to drum on his dad’s final tour.
