Friends was such a popular show that the great and good of Tinseltown were literally queuing up to make cameos.
Okay, maybe they weren’t literally queuing up, but some big names appeared on the show over its ten-year run.
Robin Williams and Billy Crystal popped up in a scene in Central Perk, Reese Witherspoon and Christina Applegate played Rachel’s sisters, and who could forget Bruce Willis’s iconic appearance?
He was a ‘neat guy’.
Still, while the best cameo is clearly Danny DeVito’s crying stripper, who’s the worst? Well, while I’ve never been fond of that Sean Penn cameo, the worst (or at least the least impactful) might be an unlikely appearance by Phillip Schofield.
Yes, believe it or not, the former This Morning presenter once featured in an episode of Friends, specifically The One Where Monica And Richard Are Just Friends.
Schofield revealed this little-known bit of Friends trivia back in 2016 when the late Matthew Perry appeared on This Morning to chat about his time on the legendary show.
This prompted Schofield to reveal that his voice actually appears in the 1997 episode in season three.
‘When the show was going out originally, I went with my wife – we went to LA, and I watched you record,’ he told Perry. ‘And one of my greatest claims to fame is that I am in Friends. My “HAH” is in Friends. It’s only brief.’
‘So I was on it more,’ Perry joked.
‘I didn’t do it on purpose, it just happened,’ Schoffield stated, although he did say he’d be willing to do it again.
It’s a blink and you’ll miss it (or whatever the audio equivalent is) kind of situation – you’ll probably be rewinding a few times before you hear it.
‘I think we have to talk about how much free time you have,’ Perry responded when Schofield called it his ‘greatest claim to fame’.
While friends ended more than 20 years ago, the show remains as popular as ever. The main cast reunited in 2021 for a special look back at the sitcom’s impressive legacy and dedicated fan base.
Sadly, the special marked the final on-screen appearance of Perry, who was found unresponsive in a jacuzzi at his home in Los Angeles on October 28, 2023.
The Chandler star was pronounced dead later that day, and his death was later revealed to have occurred due to the acute effects of ketamine.
Five people were charged in connection with helping him acquire lethal doses of Ketamine, all of whom pleaded guilty.
Most notably, Jasveen Sangha, known as the Ketamine Queen, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for her involvement.
