Phoebe Bridgers has delivered a refreshingly human contribution to the Venice Film Festival red carpet: body hair and sweat.

The Grammy-winning musician, 32, made her festival debut this week ahead of the premiere of her first film, Primetime, and apparently decided Hollywood glamour did not need to involve pretending women don’t grow body hair or perspire.

Among the considerably more polished snaps from her trip to Italy, Bridgers proudly shared a selfie on Instagram showing off a sizeable sweat patch beneath the arm of her very glamorous Alexander McQueen gown.

Rather than desperately keeping her arms welded to her sides until she could locate the nearest hand dryer, the Motion Sickness singer grinned at the camera with one arm raised and the offending patch in full view.

For those of us who were teenagers in an era of womanhood where a pit stain or missed patch of leg hair would have sent us crying to the bathroom in humiliation, Bridgers’ refusal to be ashamed of her body’s natural processes feels fantastically rebellious.

‘PRIMETIME ! 🇮🇹,’ she captioned the carousel, referring to the upcoming A24 film in which she marks her acting debut.

The sweat-inducing ensemble in question was considerably more ethereal than the button-up polyester-blend shirts most of us sweat through on the tube each day.

Bridgers wore a slate grey floral lace Alexander McQueen design from the fashion house’s autumn 2026 collection that featured a sheer bodice and delicate floral detailing.

She had her trademark platinum blonde hair swept into an updo and completed the look with Cartier jewelry.

And apparently one rebellion against the absurd standards imposed on women’s bodies wasn’t enough for Venice.

Elsewhere at the festival, Bridgers stepped out wearing a sharply tailored black Gucci skirt suit with her naturally hairy legs on full display.

The musician paired the autumn 2026 look with oval Gucci sunglasses and black Mary Jane heels from Stuart Weitzman.

It shouldn’t be particularly noteworthy that a 32-year-old woman possesses both sweat glands and leg hair, but given the painstakingly polished world of celebrity red carpets, fans were delighted by Bridgers’ refusal to disguise either.

‘The sweat stains make me feel seen,’ one person commented beneath her Instagram post.

Another simply declared, ‘God, I didn’t know I could love her more.’

It’s certainly one way to make your Venice debut memorable, although Bridgers’ legs will soon have a considerably bigger first to contend with.

Primetime marks the singer-songwriter’s acting debut and sees her appearing alongside Robert Pattinson, Skyler Gisondo and Anna Faris.

The film is inspired by the rise and fall of NBC’s controversial To Catch a Predator, which became a cultural phenomenon in the 2000s by filming sting operations targeting men attempting to meet people they believed were underage.

Pattinson, 40, stars as the programme’s host Chris Hansen, while Bridgers plays Del Harvey, a woman who poses as minors during the show’s sting operations.

Director Lance Oppenheim previously revealed Bridgers’ famously distinctive voice was part of what convinced him she was right for the unusual role.

He told The Hollywood Reporter that he had always been struck by the contrast between her ‘incredibly deep, almost baritone speaking voice’ and the far more delicate vocals heard in her music.

Oppenheim said her ability to use her voice differently depending on the environment immediately made him think: ‘That’s exactly what a decoy would do.’

Bridgers is already an Oscar and Grammy-nominated musician, both as a solo artist and as part of boygenius alongside Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker.

Now, she’s adding movie star to the CV.

Although, judging by her first trip to Venice, perhaps not the airbrushed, sweat-proof variety, which has fans even more excited to see her on the big screen.
