Jaya is Dern’s adult daughter from her relationship with her ex-husband Ben Harper. She was born on November 28, 2004. The pair made their rare joint red carpet appearance and looked stunning. Dern opted for a black and green Armani Privé gown, complete with a daring black cape.

Jaya chose a light blue dress with cutouts and metallic trim. She opted for natural makeup and wore her curly hair loose with a pin on the side.

Motherhood has been an incredible part of Dern’s life, and she has made beautiful statements about her experience. She also penned a loving and powerful letter for Jaya in 2020, Stylist reports. At the time, Jaya was a teenager, and Dern began her message by writing about how she had been reflecting on what it means to be a woman. “A woman in her own skin, in her power, without any labels placed on her. And as part of that process, I’ve thought back to what I saw when I was your age,” she wrote.

She reflected on her childhood in the ‘70s and how it impacted her as an adult. “As I got older, was to decide that even though I could do all things, I was going to focus only on one at a time,” she shared. “Continually striving not to fail was the burden I put on myself. And I’m writing this to you because I want to make sure that you don’t limit yourself in the same ways.”

Dern noted that in life, she had always made choices between two options: a career or a relationship, motherhood or acting. However, her way of thinking was changing. She shared this with her daughter and explained how she wanted her to embrace her full potential without limitations. That, and it’s OK to take time to figure things out along the way.

“Jaya, I’ve woken to something recently, and it has inspired me during this time in my life. Here it is: Life is scary, and it’s glorious,” she wrote. “You’re never going to get it all right. You’ll get it deliciously messed up, and that will be part of figuring out who you are.”
