Malcolm-Jamal Warner was remembered at the 2025 Emmy Awards in a moving moment led by his longtime TV mom, Phylicia Rashad.

Rashad, who starred as Clair Huxtable on “The Cosby Show”, opened the In Memoriam segment by paying tribute to Warner, who played her son Theo throughout the series’ eight-season run. “He was a beloved teenager in an iconic television series who the world watched grow into manhood,” she said. “Like all our friends and colleagues who transitioned this past year, Malcolm-Jamal Warner remains in our hearts.”

She continued, “We remember them not just for their immense talent, but also for the way they made us believe in something bigger — the best that is within us. Even though they may no longer be here with us, we can all smile, knowing their impact will remain, knowing that their lasting impressions will continue to live on through story, knowing that they touched our lives.”

Just days before the Emmys, Warner’s wife, Tenisha Warner, reportedly shared her own tribute on Instagram as the couple’s anniversary approached. “I can still hear my husband’s laugh, still feel the way he made room for every part of me — every tear, every dream,” she wrote.

She also announced the launch of River & Ember and the Warner Family Foundation in his honor, organizations focused on nurturing children’s creativity and supporting young artists.

At the Emmys, Rashad’s tribute captured what Warner meant to audiences and colleagues alike: not just an actor who grew up on screen, but a performer whose impact and spirit will remain woven into television history.
