You know how they say that some people just age like fine wine? Well, apparently, Pierce Brosnan ages as fine asâ¦a pint of Guinness. At 72, âJames Bondâ is proving that some men really do age very well. The actor, who was born in County Louth, Ireland, recently revealed his âsecretâ to looking good these days, and letâs just say itâs indeed delightfully Irish.
âItâs all in the hair, the old Celtic hair,â Brosnan told Page Six at the New York premiere of his new Netflix movie, âThe Thursday Murder Club,â on Aug. 14. He added with a grin that his father, Tom, also âhad good hair,â before joking that it might also come down to a diet rich in âpotatoes, butterâ and âthe Guinness.â
When pressed on his graceful aging, Brosnan laughed and replied with a humble and simple, âIâm doing my best!â
If that’s his best, we canât wait to see what his âgreatâ is.
Still Shaken, Not Stirred
Of course, Brosnan will always be remembered for his iconic portrayal as James Bond, playing the suave spy across four films between 1995 and 2002. And while Daniel Craig may have since passed the torch, according to People, Brosnan hasnât completely ruled out a cheeky return. In a 2024 interview on the Today show, he teased that he âcould get away with it, in a pinch,â adding, âLetâs see where the wind takes us. They know where to find me. Why not?â
He did acknowledge the role might not be entirely his anymore, saying, âI mean, thereâs great things you can do with AI as well, so there you have it. Iâm quite content the way it is.â
And content he should be, because Brosnanâs latest roles are winning him plenty of praise without a tuxedo or a martini glass in sight. So, if he ever does decide to come back, weâll welcome him with open arms, but if not, weâre grateful he did it in the first place.
From Bond to Murder Clubs & Crime Bosses
Brosnan stars in âThe Thursday Murder Club,â directed by Chris Columbus, alongside Helen Mirren, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie. The movie, adapted from Richard Osmanâs bestselling novel, follows a group of retirees who spend their golden years solving cold-case murders.
For Brosnan, it was a chance to reunite with Columbus, who directed him in âMrs. Doubtfire.â âItâs a film that I hold close to my heart,â Brosnan said of the 1993 classic. âSo when I got the call from Chris, that he was making a movie of âThe Thursday Murder Club,â I was halfway there already. By the time Iâd read the book by Richard Osman, I was completely hooked.â
Brosnan wasnât alone on the red carpet. His 28-year-old son Dylan walked beside him at the premiere, sporting his own enviable locks. Clearly, the Brosnan familyâs âCeltic hairâ theory checks out. Whether itâs good genes, Guinness, or just an unbeatable Irish charm, Brosnan is still turning heads at 72 and showing no signs of slowing or aging.
Outside of Netflix, Brosnan is also earning strong reviews for his turn as a ruthless crime boss in the Paramount+ series âMobland.â He admitted to Page Six that it feels good to be riding this wave of acclaim again, saying, âOne can feel the wave, and you celebrate it and give thanksâit doesnât happen that often!â
