Former Dancing on Ice professional Matt Evers has poked fun at his own awkward blunder on live TV in the US.

The 50-year-old American skater has traded in the ITV ice rink for the Home Shopping Network across the pond, where businesses go to flog their wares.

During an appearance on the teleshopping network in which Evers was waxing lyrical about the benefits of hearing aids, he got his words quite unfortunately mixed up.

‘Getting hard is…’ he started, then corrected himself: ‘Sorry, getting old is hard enough.’

Although the moment passed with little comment on the show itself, Evers took to Instagram a week after it aired to make light of the slip of the tongue.

He shared it with his 100,000 followers to point out his own embarrassment behind the scenes, set to the song Something Stupid.

Sharing a short clip of the moment spliced with a video of his hand over his mouth, Evers wrote: ‘I’ve turned in my note for resignation. I’m sorry to all of you.’

Underneath a slew of crying laughing emojis in the comments section, fan Geraldine joked: ‘I hope you’re ok at this hard… I mean difficult time.’

Meanwhile, Rachel said she was ‘screaming’ with laughter, while Victoria commented: ‘OMG. Thanks for the belly laugh – it was needed!’

Others said it was nothing compared to some of the other bloopers they’ve heard on the teleshopping channel over the years.

Evers started his TV presenting gig stateside after he quit his job as a professional skater on Dancing on Ice in 2023, having appeared on the show for 17 years.

He made history in 2020 as one half of the first same-sex partnership, with Ian ‘H’ Watkins from Steps. Evers also performed the show’s debut iteration of the daring headbanger move on the ice, with his first partner Bonnie Langford.

Evers joined in 2006, making him the longest-serving professional skater on the show when he left a few years ago, announcing his exit in an emotional video shared with fans.

Since then, Dancing on Ice has effectively been axed, after it was confirmed this year that there are currently no plans for the competition show to return.

Having wrapped up its 17th season, which saw Corrie actor Sam Ashton triumph, ITV confirmed that the show will be rested this year.

‘We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the cast and crew who have worked on the show since 2006, and over the previous 17 series, for all of their hard work both on and off the ice,’ the broadcaster said in a statement.
