
Princess Charlotte made an unexpected appearance overseas this weekend as she joined her father, Prince William, at the UEFA Womenâs Euro 2025 final in Switzerland.
On Sunday, July 27, the 10-year-old royal attended the championship match between England and Spain at St. Jakob-Park in Basel.
The Princess’ First Overseas Soccer Match
According to Fox News, Princess Charlotte’s presence marked her first international soccer game, appearing alongside her father, the Prince of Wales, 43, who attended in his official capacity as patron of the Football Association, the governing body of English soccer.
The Prince and Princess of Wales shared a snapshot of the father-daughter duo at the match, captioning the post, âLetâs go, @lionesses! ð´.â Fans quickly flooded the comments with enthusiasm, with one writing, âLittle Princess Diana â¤ï¸â and another adding, âCharlotte takes after her dad so much! William has been a visible supporter of the squad throughout this yearâs tournament, previously visiting the team at St. Georgeâs Park before their departure and attending their July 9 match against the Netherlands.
The Royal Family’s Love of Soccer
Prince William and Princess Charlotte’s high-profile appearance comes during the royal familyâs unofficial summer break. William’s three childrenâPrince George, 12; Princess Charlotte, 10; and Prince Louis, 7âare currently out of school on vacation.
William and Kate Middleton traditionally scale back royal duties during school holidays to prioritize family time, with even King Charles adopting a lighter schedule from late July through August, per People. Middleton has made only a few public appearances since courageously announcing her cancer diagnosis in March 2024
Soccer fandom runs deep in the Wales household. William has long been known for his love of the sport and served as President-Designate of the Football Association before becoming patron in 2024. His children have also shown enthusiasm for the game. During the Euro 2024 final, Prince George joined William in person to cheer on England, while Charlotte and Louis showed their support from home in customized England jerseys.
This monthâs visit to Switzerland follows another recent family outing to the Wimbledon Championships in London, where William and Kate brought George and Charlotte to watch the gentlemenâs singles final from the Royal Box on July 13.
William and Charlotte have also publicly shown support for Englandâs national soccer teams before, previously sharing messages of encouragement to players via social media.
