If you’re thinking of finally purchasing a PlayStation 5 for Christmas, you may want to hold off for a week or two, until an alleged price cut happens.
When Sony launched the PlayStation 5 five years ago, it was already considered too pricey for some, at £449.99 for the standard version and £359.99 for the digital only edition.
Instead of getting cheaper, though, both versions have only grown more expensive over the years, with even the cheaper digital option setting you back £429.99 now, while the physical version costs £479.99.
And yet according to Sony’s most recent earnings report, that doesn’t seem to have hampered sales figures. In fact, they’re higher now than they were a year ago and if a new rumour is to be believed, they stand to go up even more – thanks to an incoming price cut.
According to billbil-kun of Dealabs – who has basically never been wrong about retail leaks – Sony plans to sell the PlayStation 5 at a discount starting from November 21, in order to coincide with Black Friday (which is on November 28).
They claim that this discount will apply across all of Europe and aside from the two regular versions of the console, it will also affect the very expensive PS5 Pro, which typically costs £699.99.
You shouldn’t expect this to be a permanent price cut, but it will at least make the PlayStation 5 a more desirable option for early Christmas shopping.

What are the best Black Friday 2025 PS5 console deals?
Since billbil-kun only shares the new prices in euros, we have to make some assumptions on how much the PlayStation 5 consoles will be in the UK.
While the standard and Pro versions will be reduced by €100 – becoming €449 and €699 respectively – the digital version will cost €349, making it €150 cheaper than usual.
€100 and €150 are equivalent to £88 and £132, respectively, but Sony would likely round these up to £100 and £150 for the sake of simplicity. As such, the new UK prices for the PlayStation 5 should roughly look like this:
- PlayStation 5 standard edition – £379.99
- PlayStation 5 digital edition – £279.99
- PlayStation 5 Pro – £599.99
This is assuming these discounts apply to the UK, but it should do since Sony has had temporary price cuts on the PlayStation 5 in this country before.
Dealabs adds that the newly announced Fortnite Flowering Chaos bundle, which includes either a standard or digital edition of the PlayStation 5, is planned for Black Friday too.
Both versions of the bundle launch on November 22 and are no more expensive than the consoles on their own, but they come with multiple cosmetic items for Fortnite, plus 1,000 V-Bucks for the in-game store and will apparently see the same discounts as mentioned above.
