If you’ve watched Pulp Fiction one too many times, there’s one Quentin Tarantino film that is his ‘most underrated’ now on Amazon Prime Video.

Jackie Brown was the director’s third film, released on Christmas Day 1997, making today its 28th birthday.

Despite being sandwiched between two of his most iconic movies — Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill — it has remained an unsung icon of his filmography.

The crime caper has a few of the usual Tarantino suspects, with Samuel L. Jackson returning for his second movie with the director (he’s now at seven).

Unsurprisingly, Jackie Brown follows a young woman named … Jackie Brown, played by Pam Grier, as she gets involved in a money smuggling scheme.

The flight attendant ends up making a double-crossing deal with the authorities in exchange for her freedom.

It’s everything you could want from a gritty crime drama written by Tarantino, with witty one-liners and violence aplenty.

Alongside Jackson and Grier, the cast boasts names like Robert De Niro, Bridget Fonda, and Michael Keaton.

Of course, Tarantino also appears but this time he’s a voice on an answering machine rather than his usual on-screen cameo.

Jackie Brown sits at a very respectable 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is higher than Kill Bill, Django Unchained and the most recent one, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.

It is actually the fourth most highly rated Tarantino, according to the review site, with Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and Inglourious Basterds making up the top three.

The critics clearly approve with Brian Viner from The Daily Mail calling it a ‘compellingly stylish and witty film’.

Vice’s Jason Bailey declared it is ‘the only Quentin Tarantino movie that gets noticeably better with each viewing’.

Casual viewers agree, with Jeremiah C branding it ‘one of Tarantino’s more underrated works.’

Jacob B said: ‘The underrated gem from Tarantino, which is saying a lot for a man who has one of the most enviable filmographies. More character-driven and subtle than any of his other films, and featuring some of the cast’s best screen performances, especially that of Miss Pam Grier.’

Many even declared it one of the director’s ‘best’ films — a bold statement.

Since it was released on Christmas Day, we’re declaring this an honorary festive film, so pause Elf and stick this hidden gem on instead.

You can watch Jackie Brown for free on Amazon Prime now.
