
Producer and writer Eric Preven, whose portfolio of work includes the hit sitcom âRebaâ starring country music star Reba McEntire, and daytime drama series âSanta Barbara,â has died, Deadline reports. He was 62.
Eric Preven Passes Away
The news of Prevenâs passing was first reported on November 10. However, it is believed that he died in his Studio City home in Los Angeles on November 8. His family suspects his cause of death was a heart attack.
“It is with deep sorrow that we at CityWatch LA announce the passing of our longtime contributor, Eric Preven, who died suddenly on Saturday of an apparent heart attack was 62,” CityWatch LA reports. “Eric was one of the original writers for CityWatchLA and his voice will be greatly missed. On behalf of all of us at CityWatchLA, we extend our deepest condolences to his brother Joshua and the entire Preven family.”
Preven was well-known in writing circles and worked on three episodes of the Fox sitcom, âPartnersâ in 1995, Deadline reports. In the â90s, he also wrote for âBoston Commonâ and âSomething So Right.” Later, he worked on âHolding the Babyâ and âPopular.â In 2002, he signed on to âRebaâ as a consulting producer, Deadline reports. He then became a supervising producer from Season 2. He left the show in 2003.Â
In addition to his work in the film industry, Preven was also a passionate local civic activist, even running for mayor in 2017.Â

Preven was beloved and is survived by his brother, Joshua Previn, sister Anne Preven, his mother, Ruth Preven, and his father, David Preven, The Los Angeles Times reports. He was also a father to two adult children, Isaac Rooks Preven and Reva Jay Preven.
