Rebecca Loos has been defended after shutting down questions about Sir David Beckham on live television.
The 48-year-old star appeared on Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain to chat about the ongoing series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, but the interview took a different direction.
In 2004, Loos alleged she had an affair with footballing hero Beckham shortly after he’d moved his family to Spain after signing with Real Madrid while she was working as his Personal Assistant.
At the time, the former England captain denied the claims and described them as ‘ludicrous’.
Loos was grilled about her allegations of the affair as part of Celebrity SAS, and GMB presenter Richard Madeley suggested it could be a ‘final learning curve’ for her, proving ‘it’s not going to go away’.
She said she ‘spoke out back in the day’ because ‘it was always about the truth’, while adding that they didn’t ‘need to talk about’ the claims during a chat meant to be about the Channel 4 reality show.
Despite Beckham’s denial, she alleged that he ‘didn’t say it didn’t happen’, while Richard tried to continue the tense conversation.
‘Do you blame him? This is the last question on David Beckham, I promise,’ he asked, while she smiled and replied: ‘I think we should focus on SAS.’
But Madeley pushed: ‘That’s the last question, do you blame him for taking that line?’, and she asserted: ‘I want to talk about SAS, I’m sorry Richard.’
His co-host Kate Garraway argued that Loos ‘got opportunities like SAS because of that connection’.
‘So in a way, it’s your choice to come back into the public light in that way,’ she said, while Loos conceded: ‘Yeah, absolutely. And I totally understand people asking, I understand you asking, many people find this interesting, it’s ok to talk a little bit about it.’
However, she argued that on SAS, there was ‘so much more about [her] that could be discussed’, including her treatment from the press, and motherhood.
Meanwhile, some viewers argued that Richard was being ‘so nasty’ by pushing the line of questioning.
‘Richard being his usual unlikeable self. Why be so nasty to Rebecca Loos. #GMB,’ argued @andypaps76 on X, while @e_thronburrow said: ‘#GMB richard Madley you joke. She is on there to talk about a show. Not the past.’
And @StephMarbella said: ‘Yes she’s only famous because of DB but is there to talk about SAS ok, but RM sees it his chance to batter on about what DB said as if he’s going to wring some otherwise unheard revelations out of her.
‘Richard sorry to tell you we are all OVER IT WE HAVE ALL MOVED ON! #GMB’
However, another viewer, @vanessahodgesx, insisted Loos should have known what to expect.
‘Rebecca is delusional if she thought she was invited on #CelebritySAS to talk about her family and motherhood,’ she wrote. ‘Well Rebecca, it is the only reason you were able to claim “celebrity” status and why you are on telly tbh #gmb’
