With Hollywood still reeling following the recent tragic deaths of actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife photographer Michele Singer Reiner. The couple was found dead at their Los Angeles home on Sunday night, leading to tributes pouring in for the famous pair from famous faces all across the world.Â
Reiner is a prominent figure in the world of entertainment, having acted in films such as âThe Wolf of Wall Streetâ alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and directing classic movies like âWhen Harry Met Sallyâ and âStand By Me.â
Now that we have been robbed of the opportunity for Reiner to work on future films, here is everything you need to know about the upcoming project.
‘Wind River: Rising’ Will Be Reinerâs Final Film
While it currently has no release date, Reiner’s last film project appears to be a sequel to a 2017 thriller. âWind River: Risingâ â otherwise known as âWind River: The Next Chapterâ â will be the final film with Reiner in the credits, with the filmmaker acting as executive producer on the project.
As is often the case with executive producers on films, it is not really possible to tell exactly how much influence Reiner has had on âWind River: Rising,” so his involvement might well be minimal.Â
The neo-Western crime film is directed by Kari Skogland and written by Patrick Massett and John Zinman, with the likes of Martin Sensmeier, Gil Birmingham, Jason Clarke, and Scott Eastwood. It is a sequel to âWind River,â which saw Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen star opposite each other in the film that was written and directed by âYellowstoneâ creator Taylor Sheridan.
An official synopsis for the film states, âTerror has escalated on the Wind River reservation as a series of ritualistic murders remain unsolved. The FBI, therefore, enlists the aid of Chip Hanson, a newly minted tracker for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, who becomes embroiled in a desperate and dangerous fight between the authorities, a vigilante and the Reservation he calls home.â
The movie was originally filmed in 2023 but, according to ScreenRant, has been marred in legal wrangling that meant it has been delayed multiple times. However, it is expected to get a full release date in the coming months.Â
The Director and Actorâs Most Recent Project is âSpinal Tap IIâ
Reinerâs most recent release before his death was the 2025 sequel âSpinal Tap II: The End Continues.â A follow-up to the cult classic âThis Is Spinal Tap,â the film sees Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer reprise their roles as members of the fictional band as they reunite to play a final gig.
As was the case with the original film, Reiner took on directing duties and also helped write the script alongside the three main stars. He also once again portrayed Martin “Marty” DiBergi, the documentarian charting the lives of the band members.Â
Reiner has also directed the completed âStonehenge: The Final Finale,â a concert film that will be released in 2026. According to NME, it will act as the final screen instalment from the fictional band and was captured from a show they played in August alongside musicians such as Eric Clapton and Shania Twain.
