
Amy Redford is breaking her silence following the death of her father, Robert Redford â the legendary actor, director, and Sundance Film Festival founder- and is thanking fans around the world for their compassion. In an Instagram post on November 19, the 55-year-old actress and filmmaker shared a heartfelt message with her followers, recognizing the overwhelming support her family has received since his passing.

âI want to thank you for the overwhelming love and support that has come by way of emails, texts, DMâs, snail mail and sometimes drops on my doorstep since my dadâs passing. Itâs clear that he meant so much to so many, and I know that my family is humbled by the outpouring of stories and tributes from all corners of the globe.â
Redfordâs Daughter Condemns AI-Generated Funeral Posts and False Family Quotes
Amy used her message to call attention to the rising circulation of AI-generated funeral announcements and fabricated quotes about her father. âThere have been multiple AI versions of funerals, tributes and quotes from family members that are fabrications,â she wrote. She also addressed AI images that falsely depict her father and relatives.
âRenderings of my Dad, who clearly has no say, and depictions of my family that do not represent anyone in a positive light are extra challenging during a difficult time. We are grieving together, and we are all in support of one another.â
The Redford Family Has Not Held a Public Funeral and Is Planning a Memorial
Amy clarified that the family has not yet held a public service and is taking time to plan a memorial that reflects Robert Redfordâs values. âWe have not had a public funeral,â she said, adding that the family âare working out plans for a memorial in the future.â
She continued, âEvery family should have the ability to mourn, represent the person they lost and pay homage in the way that fits their values and family culture best.â
A Plea for Authenticity and Compassion During Grief
Although she acknowledged that artificial intelligence âisnât going anywhere,â Amy encouraged thoughtful is. âThere are many elements of it that were created with good intent. I simply ask, what if this was you? Let that be your guidepost,â she wrote. âLet human authenticity live, inspire and be the connective tissue we all crave.â
Robert Redford died in September at his home in Utah. His publicist, Cindi Berger, confirmed to The New York Times that the Oscar winner passed away in his sleep.
He is survived by his daughters, Amy and Shauna, his wife, Sibylle Szaggars, and his seven grandchildren. Robert was also father to son James, who died of cancer in 2020 at age 58, and son Scott, who died of SIDS in 1959 at 2 months old. After his passing, his grandson Connor shared a tribute honoring the Hollywood legend.
