Ryan Murphy is known for dramatizing the lives of American icons—and his next project is already turning heads. On June 13, the prolific producer dropped a first look at “American Love Story,” the upcoming FX anthology centered on the romance between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.

Ryan Murphy Shares First Look and Responds to Kennedy Heir’s Public Plea

Murphy’s production company shared a photo carousel on Instagram featuring camera test stills of actors Paul Kelly and Sarah Pidgeon in character as JFK Jr. and Bessette-Kennedy. The caption teased, “FIRST LOOK! 📸 Here are some stills from our LOVE STORY camera test. We started shooting this week in New York City and can’t wait until you see the romantic and tragic love story between America’s prince, JFK Jr., and fashion icon Carolyn Bessette—out Valentine’s Day week of 2026.”
Murphy added that more than a thousand actors auditioned for the roles, but “we absolutely found the perfect choices.”

He also congratulated the cast, including two-time Oscar nominee Naomi Watts, who will play Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

The Instagram reveal, however, stirred more than just fan excitement. Jack Schlossberg, the son of Caroline Kennedy and nephew of JFK Jr., left a pointed comment:

“HEY RYAN — admiration for John is great but maybe consider DONATING PROFITS TO THE KENNEDY LIBRARY thanks.”

Murphy replied directly: “I absolutely will.”

Everything We Know About ‘American Love Story’

“American Love Story” is the latest entry in Murphy’s FX anthology slate, following “American Horror Story,” “American Crime Story,” and “American Sports Story.” The new series will spotlight high-profile romances that captivated the world—and JFK Jr. and Bessette-Kennedy are up first.

Per Deadline, the Kennedy-focused first season of “American Love Story” will see “what started out as a beautiful union for the young couple, widely regarded as American royalty, [begin] to fray under the stress of the relentless microscope and navel gaze of tabloid media. The pressures of their careers and rumored family discord ended with their tragic deaths when his private plane crashed into the ocean on a hazy summer night off the coast of Massachusetts.”

The real-life couple, often dubbed “America’s prince and princess,” met in 1992 and married in 1996. Their lives were tragically cut short in 1999 when the plane piloted by Kennedy crashed off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, killing both of them and Bessette’s sister, Lauren.

Filming is underway in New York City, and a premiere is planned for 2026.
