Actor, author, and podcaster Sadie Robertson has shared the harrowing journey to diagnosis for her youngest daughter on her May 20 podcast episode of “Whoa That’s Good.” Over the past several months, Robertson has shared several terrifying choking accidents that Kit, 9 months old, has experienced.
Sadie Robertson and her partner and co-host, Christian Huff, both appeared on the “Whoa That’s Good” podcast in a video titled “A Month of Emergencies and Miracles – The Full Story,” following multiple updates on Robertson’s Instagram over the past few months.
The pair sat down and explained the heart-stopping emergencies Kit went through after two episodes of extreme choking. The cause, as explained by Huff and Roberston, is due to laryngomalacia, a condition of the voice box that can obstruct breathing and cause problems with swallowing when severe.

Roberston’s story around Kit’s medical journey began on April 11, when the Podcast host posted a short video to her official Instagram account explaining that Kit had choked while sitting in her high chair during snack time. The situation was so severe that CPR was required, and Kit was then transported to the hospital via ambulance.
Roberston stated, “Everyone went into action and into prayer. Mom called 911, I started CPR, and everyone began to pray out loud and move the other kids downstairs.”
Kit had a history of loud breathing due to the laryngomalacia that had been pointed out by Robertson’s pediatrician shortly after she was born. However, she and Huff explained that they were told it wasn’t likely to be an issue as long as she ate well and her oxygen level stayed normal.
Kit recovered and was sent home from the hospital, but Robertson explained that just a few weeks after the first accident, it happened again. They rushed Kit back to the hospital, where it was decided that further testing for the laryngomalacia was needed.
Robertson shared that, “Before we even are fully admitted, the doctor already goes ahead and does the scope to look at the laryngomalacia, and within the first second, she goes, ‘OK, I would definitely classify this as severe laryngomalacia’.”
Robertson Details Daughter’s Surgery, Thanking Supporters
Following the diagnosis of severe laryngomalacia, Robertson detailed that Kit required surgery for her safety. She explained that Kit was extremely fortunate in that she hadn’t presented any of the typical symptoms of such a severe condition, which can include chronic pneumonia and failure to thrive, among many other health hurdles. Robertson said, “It really was just such a miracle, honestly, that we hadn’t had issues before.”
Kit’s surgery was initially delayed due to her contraction of rhinovirus, with Huff explaining that before she could be scheduled, they had to test her for anything that could hinder recovery. He stated, “(The doctors) were like, ‘let’s just test her for any viruses just to make sure,’ and then she came back positive for rhinovirus.”
After recovering, Kit was able to undergo surgery, successfully repairing her airway. Robertson detailed the dramatic changes, stating, “Even from the day before surgery to the day after surgery, Kit’s dramatic improvement in how she was eating and taking the bottle and her demeanor, and now she wasn’t noisy breathing. Her breathing was immediately silent.”
Robertson and Huff both expressed gratitude to the friends and family that stood around them during their time of need, calling the entire process a “miracle.” Robertson has confirmed that Kit is continuing to recover well and is hopeful there won’t be any more complications with her diagnosis.
