Salma Hayek has been chosen as one of four cover girls for the 2025 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition.
“Salma Hayek Pinault graces the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2025, proving that true beauty knows no age,” the publication tweeted on May 13.
The three other women to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2025 are gymnasts Livvy Dunne and Jordan Chiles, as well as model Lauren Chan.
This is the first time Hayek, 58, has been featured in Sports Illustrated, and she said during the shoot, “I remember when I was young, a long, long time ago, I was always excited to see the Swimsuit Issue of Sports Illustrated, and [thinking] ‘Whoâs going to be in it?’”
Hayek continued, “Of course, I didnât look like a model, so it never crossed my mind that one day I would be in it. If somebody had told me I was gonna be in it at 58, I would have sent them to the madhouse, but the world has changed, and thatâs exciting.”
“I think it’s really remarkable that a magazine like Sports Illustrated [Swimsuit] says that itâs O.K., maybe even cool, to be past 50 and still be able to feel not just sexy, but for me, to be free and not be self-conscious of your body like you have to hide,” she told Sports Illustrated.
The “Like Water For Chocolate” star shared, “I donât see why, after a certain age, we have to retract ourselves from embracing life to the fullest.”
Hayek added, “I hope that when they see the interview or see the photos, itâs a reminder for everyone that itâs so important to always just put all your effort in finding the joy in any given situation.”
Why Hayek Almost Talked Herself Out of Doing the Sports Illustrated Photoshoot
Prior to posing for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, Hayek felt uncertain about baring her body for the magazine.
“At the beginning, it felt like imposter syndrome and terrifying, terrifying, terrifying,” she said on a May 13 episode of Today.
Hayek told Jenna Bush Hager and her co-host for the day, Erin Andrews, that she tried to convince herself not to do the shoot. However, she managed to go through with it with confidence.
“At this point, I kind of said, ‘I’m just going to own it and rock it.’ I was so happy. So I think it is so much a right to be full of joy, to be full of life, to be happy and embrace yourself and life itself at any age,” Hayek said.
She added, “We donât expire like my generation was told.”
