Hollywood star Sean Astin has reached out in an attempt to help a troubled former Nickelodeon star — that is according to one of the troubled man’s previous co-stars.

Daniel Curtis Lee starred alongside the former child star in Nickelodeon’s “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide,” which ran for three seasons and 54 episodes on the channel from 2004 until 2007. The troubled star in question is Tylor Chase.

Chase, now 36, played the recurring role of Martin Qwerly in 33 episodes of the popular show, while Lee played one of the main characters, Simon “Cookie” Nelson-Cook.

Lee spoke to TMZ about having recently spent some time with Chase — and it was a chat that revealed “The Goonies” and “Lord of the Rings” star Astin had met with Chase in a bid to support him through his troubles.

It’s been known for some time that Tylor Chase has been living as a transient in Southern California while allegedly struggling with meth addiction.

Daniel Curtis Lee, 34, has done a lot to help his former co-star, even covering a temporary hotel stay for him to get him off the streets. Lee told TMZ that, during one of his recent meetings with Chase, someone reached out to his former co-star telling him Sean Astin wanted to meet up with him.

Astin is a hugely successful star whose credits beyond “The Goonies” and “Lord of the Rings” include movies like 1991’s action thriller “Toy Soldiers,” 1992’s fantasy comedy “Encino Man,” and 1993’s biographical sports flick “Rudy,” as well as television shows like the horror mystery series “Stranger Things” and sitcom “The Conners” (per IMDb).

Notably, Astin is also the current president of the Screen Actors Guild.

Sean Astin had reportedly heard that Tylor Chase was a big fan of his — particularly due to his role as Samwise Gamgee in the aforementioned “Lord of the Rings” franchise — which prompted him to reach out to the troubled former actor.

Daniel Curtis Lee told TMZ that Astin hoped he’d be able to convince Chase to turn his life around and get off the streets.

On Christmas Day, Lee had a conversation with Chase over FaceTime about his experience meeting Astin — a video of which TMZ gained access to.

In the short video, Lee asks Chase how his meeting with Astin went. Although his replies are muffled, he can be heard describing the experience as “awesome” and, in general, it sounded like it was a positive one.

Astin deserves huge credit for attempting to help Chase. Hopefully, meeting one of his heroes will have inspired him to make a better life for himself.

Since Chase’s troubles came to light after videos of him looking unkempt circulated online, there has been a major push to help him from numerous sources, including the police. However, Riverside Police spokesman Ryan Railsback previously told TMZ that law enforcement can only do so much without Chase explicitly asking for or consenting to help.

As well as “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide,” Chase’s acting credits also include an episode of sitcom “Everybody Hates Chris” and the 2007 drama movie “Good Time Max” (per IMDb).

We wish him well.
