Following three days of deliberation, a Manhattan federal jury handed down a split verdict. Combs was cleared of the most serious allegations — racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking — but found guilty on two counts of violating the Mann Act. This federal law prohibits the transport of individuals across state lines for illicit purposes. So, what happened outside of the courtroom after the verdict? Here’s what a court reporter said.

After the Sean “Diddy” Combs trial verdict hit the media, crowds went wild outside of the courthouse. Law&Crime correspondent Elizabeth Millner spoke about what she witnessed while on the scene. She described “pandemonium” and even “people squirting baby oil” in celebration. Millner also noted that several groups had “heated debates” about Casandra “Cassie” Ventura.

“There was, kind of, I will even say, pandemonium after the verdict was read,” Millner noted. “Outside, a lot of Diddy’s supporters, a lot of people who are kind of with the ‘Free Diddy’ — I wouldn’t say movement, but they believed in his innocence — they were very pleased, even thinking that it was a possibility he’d just walk outside of that courthouse at some point. But, it was a lot of commotion. I did see some people getting into some heated debates, especially in relation to Cassie. I saw some people getting very upset because they believed that the government was trying to take a good man down who did a lot for the culture. Those types of conversations were being had from a lot of people in the public.”

“I even saw some kind of weirder things, and that being people squirting baby oil on themselves,” Millner added. “And one of the reporters even got some on her shirt. … And so a lot was going on to the point that I think the courthouse police were just kind of, like, ‘OK, we need everybody to calm down.’”

According to Millner, police set up barricades running down the street. She added that if Combs did walk out of the courthouse, she would’ve witnessed “straight chaos.” Ultimately, his supporters appear “very pleased” with the trial outcome.
