
The United States has lost a veteran public figure and influential politician, with the news that former Vice President Dick Cheney has sadly passed away. According to CBS, the 84-year-old died on Monday night from complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease. He most notably served under George W. Bush from 2001 until 2009.
In a statement from his family, Cheney was described as a “great and good man who taught his children and grandchildren to love our country, and to live lives of courage, honor, love, kindness, and fly fishing. We are grateful beyond measure to have loved and been loved by this noble giant of a man.”

The former Vice President last appeared in public in Washington, DC. at the American Enterprise Institute. The event took place on September 19, 2022 and his daughter, Rep. Liz Cheney was speaking in her role as vice chairwoman of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Wearing a suit jacket, shirt, and black face mask, Cheney watched on as his daughter made a speech during the Constitution Day lecture.
The former Vice President watched on intently with several other influential figures also in attendance.
His wife Lynne Cheney was also watching on while sitting next to her husband. The pair could be seen applauding as their daughter delivered a speech.Â

The Family Dick Cheney Leaves Behind
Cheney married his wife Lynne in 1964 and last year celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Following his tragic death, the politician leaves behind a loving family. This includes his 84-year-old wife, as well as two adult children whom he shared with Lynne.
The older of his two daughters is 59-year-old Liz Cheney, who followed in her fatherâs footsteps as a politician. She served as the U.S. representative for Wyoming’s at-large congressional district between 2017 and 2023.
Mary Cheney is the younger of the two siblings at 56 years of age. She supported her father as a campaign aide and has been involved in a number of political action committees.
Cheney was also a grandparent. In total, he had three granddaughters and a grandson.
