After Diane Keaton tragically died in October 2025, fans and co-stars alike flocked to social media to pay their respects to the legendary actress. Among the tribute-payers was George Newbern, who took to Instagram to share a warm message about his late co-star. “Diane Keaton was a brilliant light in every project and in every way,” he wrote alongside a still from one of the “Father of the Bride” films.
After describing how blessed he felt to have worked with her, Newbern praised Keaton’s talent. “To my eye she was an absolute artist. Unfailingly interesting and interested in all things beautiful.” Over 50,000 fans liked the heartbreaking post, and hundreds shared their own sentiments about Keaton in the comments.
Newbern Wasn’t the Only ‘Father of the Bride’ Star to Pay Tribute
The “Father of the Bride” film series is beloved by fans, even today. Newbern starred as Bryan, the would-be son-in-law of Keaton’s character, Nina. She clearly left an impression on Newbern, but he wasn’t the only actor from the series to honor Keaton after her passing. Her on-screen husband, Steve Martin, also shared a simple but sweet tribute in her honor.
“Loved!” he captioned a vintage photo of Keaton in a post on X. Even though so many years had passed since she took on the role of Nina, the film series was clearly still close to Keaton’s heart as of 2022. In an interview with Us Weekly, the actress said she’d gladly reprise the role. “No oneâs come forward with it,” she said at the time. “But if it were to happen, sure. Of course I would.”
Keaton Spent the End of Her Life Surrounded by Loved Ones
Although Keaton readily admitted to multiple health struggles in the decade before her passing, her cause of death wasn’t immediately apparent when the news broke on October 11th, 2025. According to a close friend, the 79-year-old actress intentionally kept her health status quiet towards the end of her life. “In her final months, she was surrounded only by her closest family, who chose to keep things very private,” the friend told People. “Even longtime friends werenât fully aware of what was happening.”
She may have chosen to keep her circle small in her final days, but the outpouring of love she’s received since her death shows just how deeply Keaton impacted Hollywood and her adoring fans.
