Alcaraz was wearing purple for his match against Reilly Opelka during the Men’s Singles First Round match on Day 2 at the 2025 US Open. The event was held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.
Purple looks great on Alcaraz, but it wasn’t his clothing that grabbed attention; instead, it was his change in hairstyle that made for a dramatic transformation. The tennis star had chopped off his hair in favor of a buzz cut, and fans have a lot of thoughts about his new look.
Alcarazâs hairstyle may have been distracting for some fans but it had no impact on his performance. Alcaraz won his match against Opelka with a 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 victory, The National reports. He also addressed the crowd, mentioning his new look. âIâve got to ask to the people if they like the new haircut or not. Do you like it guys? I think they like it,â he said.
The crowd cheered in confirmation that they did like his buzz cut.
The tennis star later addressed his haircut again in a press conference, and he revealed that the intention had not been to cut it quite so short. âI felt like my hair was really long already, and before the tournament I just really wanted to get a haircut,â he said at the press conference, The National reports. âMy brother, he misunderstood with the machine. He just cut it. Then the only way to fix it is just shave it off. Itâs not that bad, I guess.â

Alcaraz posted several photos from the day of his match on Instagram on August 26. Fans have reacted to the post, and although not everyone is on board with his haircut, there are still plenty of supporters who have great things to say.
âLooking fresh and speedy,â a comment reads. âI love the new look,â a supportive fan wrote.
âOutfit 10/10. Buzz cut 10/10. Tennis skills 10/10,â a third person shared.
Other reactions include, âLooking gorgeous, new hair is fire,â and âYou can see that someone is truly good looking when they shave their head and look like (fire emoji).â
