Shrek 5 trailer with Gingerbread’s ‘BBL’ is so raunchy it’s age-restricted

I’m apparently not old enough to see the Gingerbread Man twerk in the new trailer for Shrek 5 — and you might not be either.

When I heard that DreamWorks had finally dropped the first trailer for the long-awaited sequel, I did what any self-respecting millennial would do: I headed straight to X to see whether people were excited, furious, or both.

Instead of a flood of nostalgia, I was greeted by a timeline full of blurred-out images carrying the warning: ‘Age-restricted adult content. This content might not be appropriate for everyone.’

The offending material? A gingerbread biscuit with a Brazilian Butt Lift.

In one of the trailer’s most talked-about moments, the Gingerbread Man reveals a pair of suspiciously enhanced gumdrop cheeks after receiving a spanking from two gingerbread ladies.

‘I’m caked up like a freaking bakery,’ he proudly declares.

I feel kind of itchy typing that sentence, and judging by the online reaction, plenty of other people felt the same while watching it.

‘Wtf is this. This isn’t Shrek. I didn’t want to see Gingerbread Man shaking his butt cheeks. They ruined Shrek,’ wrote @realjakejacks.

‘Much like the character himself, the gingerbread man jokes have become stale,’ added @HeyItsSinko64.

Others were considerably more entertained.

‘Gingerbread Man got the Gumdrops BBL from the Bakers Man!’ joked @Azure_Lover.

‘They gave the gingerbread man a bbl omg😭😭😭,’ wrote @glowinasia.

‘Bbl gingerbread man is wild,’ added @fakeluvjay.

For the blissfully unaware, a BBL — or Brazilian Butt Lift — is a cosmetic procedure designed to enhance a person’s backside. In Gingy’s case, the work appears to have been carried out using icing and gumdrops, though I suspect that’s not the technique favoured by most plastic surgeons.

Meanwhile, @fredhechinger summed up what many viewers appeared to be feeling: ‘Everyone’s going on about the animation style and how Shrek and Donkey don’t look like Shrek and Donkey but I’m more traumatised by THIS 💀 wtf do you mean Shrek 5 has a caked up Gingerbread Man?!?’

Naturally, after seeing everyone lose their minds, I wanted to see the screenshots for myself, but I couldn’t because every image had been hidden behind X’s age-verification wall.

Assuming I’d somehow activated an obscure privacy setting, I dug through my account preferences. Nope. The platform had simply decided that Gingy’s freshly enhanced posterior was unsuitable for anyone who hasn’t verified they’re over 18.

Somehow, that makes the whole thing even funnier.

To be fair, Shrek has always dealt in adult humour. This is the franchise that gave us Lord Farquaad’s not-so-subtle bedroom scene, endless double entendres and enough adult jokes to keep parents entertained through five viewings of the same DVD.

The difference is that those gags usually lived in the realm of implication. Apparently, according to X’s moderation system, an animated biscuit throwing it back crosses a line, and it’s not hard to see why.

If nothing else, it’s a fittingly bizarre return for a franchise that has spent the last 25 years gleefully turning fairy-tale conventions upside down.

Universal Pictures released the first footage from the long-awaited sequel this week ahead of its summer 2027 release.

Returning stars include Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey and Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona, while Zendaya joins the cast as Felicia, the daughter of Shrek and Fiona.

The teaser sees Donkey thrilled by the prospect of another adventure with his best friend.

‘It’s really happening,’ he gushes. ‘Do you know what that means? I need a makeover — get my arms yoked and my back jacked, my abs ab-ded, maybe even tighten up my badonkadonk.’

Donkey isn’t the badonkadonk everyone is talking about.
